Did a search and nothing. Says compares to Cooper Zeon 2XS (Guess Mastercraft is made by Cooper). Anyone know if these tires are good? They are a 235 40 18. Thanks.

You never know..could be a "no name" that's actually decent. Going for around $100-115..comestically I like the tread pattern alot.

Generally those tire brands buy disowned old but generally never made public tire patterns from larger brands, Yokohoma sells alot of these to new comer no namers (budget tires), so does Bridgestone (Fuzion) generally they are tires that weren't good enough for the name they were to be branded. So they get tossed. This is to help cut the loss of the R&D of the tire.

Excellent information, thank you. I actually might go for them. I know 235 isn't "cool" i.e. bigger the better lol around here but if I can get a good price why not.

I have some 245/45 17" on my '88 GT and they were a really nice looking/handling tire. All out traction in a straight line is lacking though.

Try some Yokohama ES100s, fairly good tire with a good brand name and pretty soft on the wallet too. Don't expect much for straight lining though, it's a turn corners tire. And cosmetically pleasing.

I put mastercraft tires on my 98 SS. They where a good price for 275's. They are not that bad handling is OK Tread ware is good. I think there are better more rewarding tires to be had for just a little more money. The toyo line is reasonable and around that price. I have nitto 555 that I paid about 135 a piece for and I like them. Good luck.

I normally fully support purchasing tires in some of the lesser known brands as there are some real bargins out there in the tire market but when you think of performance tires, cooper is not a name that generally comes to mind. Sure they do have a few out there and Roush uses them as their factory tire of choice, but a budget tire from a company that has little to no experience in designing and testing performance tires is not where I would go. Cooper would be the absolute lowest i would go with the GTO and as others have stated, there are other tires out there for just a few dollars more that can be had. The ES100's are a good tire but are extremely loud with wear but do provide good steering response and overall grip.
The Bridgestone Fuzion ZRi is actually a quality tire for just over 100/tire as well as Sumitommo HTR ZIII and Kumho Ecsta SPT. All under 110/tire and will far exceed the grip, response and your expectations.

I had Fuzion ZRIs on my 2000 T/A, don't expect much as far as traction. They aren't bad, but they are very "meh" they break alot on hard cornering. And leave alot to be desired in straight line. Also so you know, fuzion is a subsidiary of Bridgestone.

Most tires have a hard time with large amounts of torque especially when they have a rating roughly 320. The ZRi's would be head and shoulders above that of a Mastercraft.

Tread ratings are per manufacture so you know. IE: Bridgestone might say 280 on a tire, but compared to another it could be a 300 compared to a Goodyear. Etc.
Just so you know, didn't know if you did.

I have cooper zeons right now putting on new rims in a day or so, but i would have to say that they are on ok tire they last about 19000-20000 miles, but i am probably stretching it a little thin. I would say 17000 is when you see a noticable drop in performance and wear and its pretty much downhill from there.

I agree with you but Sumitommo? You have got to be joking. Sumitommo tires are an absolute joke and should be nowhere near the performance category.

i am serious, they have made alot of strides in the performance category with their latest release of the HTR ZIII. I agree that the HTR and HTR II arent their best offerings but as with Kumho and their Ecsta Supra 712, they have come a long way from those less performing performance tires.

I have stayed out of posting in this thread until now, but now I have to post.
you have to understand that some people just want a "performance" tire at a cheap price (in essence, just a cheap tire that fits their rim). they will buy any of these cheap tires and probably be very happy with them. they really don't know the difference from a "real" performance tire and a snowtire, and there is nothing you will be able to say to them that can convince them otherwise. they will never truly understand how a quality $300 tire is any better, than a second or third rate $115 dollar tire.
it's not worth even trying to change their mind about it. I see it on here all the time. once they have asked the question about buying the tire, it's already too late anyway, because 99% of the time their mind is already made up to buy it, no matter what anyone says. if they were truly looking for a good performance tire, they would have never even looked at one of those tires in the first place, never mind even knowing they existed.
you want a good product, you only look at good products, not cheap bargin bin crap
end of rant

Because your right TJ, I DON'T CARE. I'm not looking nor do I care to spend $300 on a single tire, if you have the $$$ and are that "truely performance oriented" then by all means go for it.....I'm not a "performance junkie" when it comes to tires, I'm not going to be whipping around corners pushing my car to the extreme, etc. etc. etc. Not everyone on the board is Emerson Fittipaldi nor does everybody on the board always care to drop $1k on tires. So understand this...not everyone can afford the "big ticket" tires nor can everybody on the forum afford CCW wheels. If I have to look at bargains then so be it, don't insult me by basically calling me a nitwit because I choose a "lesser" tire than the norm. Thanks.

Thanks.sorry brother, I really didn't mean to get personal. it wasn't really directed to you, but more toward where I see this thread going. people are going t start arguing that the cheapies are just as good as the top of the lie ones and usually I just sit back and watch while laughing to myself. I think it was just that I needed to vent about all the crap I see on this forum all the time, and your thread just was the one to suffer.
you are asking about a cheaper tire, and I always tell people that you should buy the best you can afford, and if you can't afford much that's ok too. it is only wrong (in my eyes) when people can afford a quality product and try cheaping out and then complain afterwards.
sorry big guy, didn't mean to offend you:attachment:

All is well, I understand what your saying...if I had the $$$ to blow on expensive tires, trust me I would. These tires are on the wheels I might be buying and they have about 90-95% tread left so essentially they are brand new. I was just checking to see if they were any good or if anyone had opinions, that's all. :D

I'm looking at the General Exclaim UHP tires. They are relatively cheap (about in the price line with Nitto 555s), and have gotten good reviews on Tire Rack and from people on this board.
As for Mastercraft, my uncle has them on his C5 and swears by them. I have no experience with the tires themselves, but my uncle also thought the stock run-flats were a very good tire. So take that for what it is worth.

I don't know if they're any good or not, but I know where Cooper's are made, and I know several people that work for the company, so I'll be buying a set of 4.

No...I went with Nexen N3000's in the rear 255 35 18, love them, another very cost efficient but good performing tire. I've pretty much maxxed out my work's "bonus" from this year lol on parts so next spring I'm going to get matching Nexens for the front. Need to save some $$$ for Xmas...or do I just spend it all on parts for myself hmmm....

Mastercraft is made by Cooper. And it is a nice tire. We do alot of buisness with Town Fair Tire. And they sell alot of Mastercraft tires. So far, we have sold 3 sets of these. Mostly on little Honda's and such. But they balance well. And seem to handle pretty well.

Speaking of Nexen. Are they any good?
Wife's lease is over in 3 months and her tires are pretty worn. I am thinking... should I get her a set of 4 General UHPs or maybe even Nexen now and ride them for 3 months. Or just get some really cheap tires at the very end of the lease, say Sumitomo HTR+, just to return the lease.

LOVE my Nexen N3000's!!! Also loved the price... got them for like $77 dollars a piece! 245/40/18s up front and 265/35/18s on the rear. They have a good tread design and seem to wear pretty well, good street traction. :turbonaug BUT since my car has never seen rain, I couldn't tell you how they are on wet pavement.

After looking up info on the tire:
The Mastercraft Avenger ZHP is only H rated. Factory tires for our cars were rated W. I wouldn't buy anything that has less than a W rating.
The manufacturers take more care in what they put on the vehicle since Ford was (supposedly) sued by someone that wrecked their Ford product (a Lincoln Mark, IIRC) due to a blow out. The car's factory installed tires were rated at a lower speed than the car could go. *EDIT* This lawsuit is not related to the Explorer/Firestone episode.
