I didn't know how to search for this, but couldn't come up with anything.

I blew out a RE040 and instead of buying 1 new one for 225$ I am thinking about going with something stickier. My question is, is there any problem with running the stock RE040's up front and getting two different tires for the rear?

Thinking something along the lines of the Nitto 265/35 555 extreme's?

Edit- It's on the stock 18s if that matters.

want 1 or 4 free RE040's with 11K miles. U pay shipping is all.
2 used as front have minor cupping on inside. 2 rears have 5-6K miles left.
PM if interested.....and I wouldn't mix tires on this car.

jabax, do not do that. I found this out the hard way...

My recommendation is to either buy 1 new RE040, which I don't recommend cuz they suck! Or buying 4 new tires such as Eagle F1 GSD3s (what I have currently and are the best tire I've used to date) or try these http://www.ls2gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1551 46

Yeah, I'm definitely trying to avoid spending 225$ for 1 shitty tired when I can spend around ~500 and get 4 new tires. Just looking for options and figured if I could get away with running two better tires out back for cheaper I'd do so. Looks like I'm now looking for affordable good tires.

Looks like for the stocker 18's 235/4018's up front and 265/35 18's in the rear is acceptable?

I have 245s all around in the Eagle F1 tire. I probably would've went with the VREDESTEIN SESSANTA tires I linked you to if I had known about them at the time of my purchase since they are a lot less $ and seem to be just as good according to some of the feedback on em. I say don't go for the RE040, after having the stockers and now having the F1s, the difference is night and day.

Yeah, I read about them and they seem like a pretty good tire. I was offered a free tire (see a few posts up) so I might just do that and buy some time until I want to buy all new tires since running 2 and 2 is a bad idea.

generally you dont mix brands or even different spec tires across a car and certainly not across a specific axle.

If money's tight, then go for the free tire. If you can manage ~$600, I'd say step it up and go for the rubber. It's definitely worth the $.
