I used the UPS website to calculate the cost of sending 2 tires/wheels to Utah (105lbs per box i.e. 2 wheels and 2 tires per box)....is it really $150 per box or did I screw something up? That is going to cost $300 or so to ship??!! :banghead:
What is the cheapest way or carrier to ship these??? I see people all the time shipping wheels around the country for $100-175, I'm assuming some have a corporate account but for the rest of us, how are you doing it. Thanks
I think it's cheaper if you place 2 pieces of card board on each face and back of each wheel, tape them, and ship them as 4 packages.. Thats how I did mine and it ended up around ~100... But, it with my gf's corporate account.

Yes that was the route a couple of Postal places said was easier and will dramatically cut down costs. Thing is I also have lugs and a key I have to send. Thanks for the input.

This is what I use as an estimator. You can also get them to pick the rims up at your house.

VQMotoring sent my rims with the two pieces of cardboard setup, and whoever buys my stock 18s will get the same treatment.

Bought 17" ASA AR1s for the Caddy with 235/55-17 P-zero Nero MS tires mounted from Tire Rack a year ago.. $23 ground for all 4 at the time. I'd guess another $10 now because of gas prices?
Add: Spec'd out some AR1 chomre 18" and some Sumitomo HTRZIIIs. Shipping was $88 ground. Ouch. Wonder how I got em shipped so cheap last year?

Cost me like $326 or something similar to have UPS ship 4 19" CCW wheels/tires from VA to CA. Had to buy packaging supplies at the store too, which cost like $52 bucks including them helping me package the rims because I wasn't about to have them pack it themselves and screw it up. Not sure how much the insurance cost on the packages increases the totals, but they were insured for $4K.

Actually I found my email from tirerack last year. It was $77.76 ground for everything. Duh. Dunno where I got the $23.

I have used Greyhound PackageXpress for bulky packages.
It is depot to depot, not door to door.
Not the fastest, but not too bad either.

I've shipped two sets of 17x9's and both were around $21.00 each. Shipped two to NY ($43.00) and two to St Louis ($42.00). I've seen that $20 is pretty average for shipping a wheel.

when I shipped mine I used fedex and cut cardboard in a circle and taped to both sides of wheel to make as small as possible and shipped all four individually for about 130 bucks total

Just shipped 2 rims and tires to CA through Fed ex. Price $25 per wheel. I had boxes from a wheel delivery and just placed my old 18's in it.

Well it was $195 from MA to Utah including everything...I was able to get them into 2 nice boxes (2 wheels/tires per box). Shipped FedEx Ground. The two boxes cost me a total of $15 and insured them for $1K. Not bad for practically traveling across the country. If you do ship the wheels individually they will whack you with a $7 "non standard" shipping fee or something like that. Anything to make a buck. Hope this helps anyone else. BTW...don't quote someone on shipping until you've ACTUALLY talked to someone about it LOL.
