Not sure if this is the right section or not but I'll ask it here anyway. Do any of you guys who live in an area where things actually rust do anything to protect your rotors from rust? I'm not sure if there is anything that can be done but I took the car out for the first time in a few months today and the car wouldn't move easily as the layer of rust that built on the rotors, had surrounded the pads. Then, after driving, I had a pretty nasty brake pulse for the first four to five miles. By the time I got back home it was almost gone. Curious if you guys have ever done anything to prevent this or have ever had a similar problem. Thanks.

You can't really do anything to protect the face of the rotor, as it is constantly being scraped by the pads and worn down. Anything you put on there to protect it would be worn down and scraped away as well. Just do a few hard braking maneuvers (safely, of course; don't get rear ended) and you'll be fine.
If you're worried about the hat of the rotor, high temperature paint works well. Make sure it's high temperature stuff (it'll say on the can) as rotors can easily reach 800*F or higher. Just don't spray it anywhere your pads could make contact.

Wow, that nuts. You'd probably get a better response in the suspension/brake section but you may want to take your rotors and clean/sand the hats real good and paint them with rustoleum. Check your pads to make sure nothing's wrong with them but I'm sure if you clean the face of the hat real good and paint you should be good to go.

Yeah, I'm an idiot and completely forgot there was a suspension/brake section because I spend all of my time in the FI or Midwest sections.
As for the suggestions, I can probably pull the rotors off and sand off the rust but this is something that happens almost every time the car sits for more than a week or two (which happens a lot because its not a DD). Is nobody else having this problem???

It happens to all cars, but like you said after a few miles the friction rubs the surface rust off - nothing to worry about if it's only a week or two.

Your rotors are unprotected iron, and iron rusts. It's inherent in all conventional rotors.
If you really really want it to go away, figure out a ceramic rotor setup. Adapt one from the ZR1 or a Porsche. Starblade (http://www.starfire-starblade.com/ContentManager/index.cfm?Step=Displa y&ContentID=15) is supposedly working on a system too. Expect to spend... a lot.
