Blitzu, I had same run around with "TEAM PONTIAC" trying to locate my car at Benicia.
The GTO had a damaged rim.. Had to wait for a new rim from Aussie land. They had no answers of how/ which rim and a new del. date... I even wrote some letters to Gen. Mang. Meyers and a Production Dude. No responce from either.. Very poor Customer service. I gave them Pontiac an F- grade on there survey... Sent no history with the car as to the repairs. This all took over a month... We found out the car was coming
from the Cargo Driver cause he knew the sales guy. That he was leaving RENO - go to Benicia and right back up to Kathy Fowlers... he laughed Could this be the Missing GTO(Nemo). I would not spend time with TEAM PONTIAC... My GTO had a nickname "Finding Nemo" Good Luck Cosmo :drink: :drink: :drink: :slap: :slap:

That sucks Blitzu. Has anyone called Ponitac Customer Service and complained about it? IT seems alot of guys are having that same problem.
What about the lemon law in Illinois?

I don't know where Arlington Heights IL is but if it is anywhere near southern WI I would recommend taking your car to Everhart O'Leary in Janesville, they have fixed everything on my car right the first time and have been great to deal with. They know my GTO inside and out since they have fixed:
door lock stopped working, clutch, trunk latch, seat squeak, dic display, shift handle loosened up, coolant leak and I'm bringing it in for the differential and what sounds like a bolt rolling around under the transmission on Tuesday.
I'm sure there were other things, I just can't remember them all anymore.

I no longer have a "limited" slip differential, it always slips. (one wheel drive)

Wow!! That does suck. I haven't had any issues with the shifter, clutch or tranny so far with 3000 miles on the car. You dealers suck ass! My dealer has been very good to me. I had bushings for the thunking sound replaced about 2 weeks ago. No hassles, no nothing. They ordered the parts and installed them in about an hour.
Jones Pontiac in Lancaster, PA. They are a great dealership with great service.

Sucks Blitz - but sounds more like you have more of a problem with the dealership than with the car. I think that's where GM is lacking the most if they really want to compete w/ mercedez and bmw.

hey dan sorry to hear about your dilema.did you buy your car from causely? thought I saw that in another thread.I hope this isn't what we can expect for service for all problems .good luck
Blitzu
04-15-2004, 09:19 PM
Yeah, it is more the service than the car, but still, this tranny has been around for awhile, and also the gearbox, that is the only reason I bought a first year production car... there shoudnt be drive train issues. Torqueing down the clutch should not be something you "mess up" and than not have a recall on. Shame on you GM... YOU KNOW THIS!!
Thanks for the sympathy guys, it is appreciated... just really frustrated over the car so far, especially when all of these issues could have been all fixed the first time if these people would get their head out of their asses.
I will look into that dealership in WI if this one doesnt work... and yes I am highly considering legal issues with the lemon law if this isn't taken care of soon.
I shouldnt have to call GM when I have been to TWO of their dealers... they should have fixed it the first time and done it right.
Shocker

Yeah from what I have seen so far, the ones built in sept 03, and Oct 03 are the ones with issues. Other than this I could tell you though, with a horrible gear box, I still beat a 2004 M3 tonight... we raced 4 times, all four times are on video... Ill post them up later. Pretty good buy in my opinion.

Yeah both runs he got a jump on me in first gear, but by second I would pull ahead of him by a few feet. Through third and into forth, we were accelerating just about the same. We never really took it far over 100 so I don't know how well he would fair against the LS1 were it really comes alive.
Either way the first run from a dead stop we were almost even , but he accelerated about a second before I did, I was busy rolling up my window when I saw him gun it... we ended up dead even just about.
The next two runs, he did have a passanger in the car doing the taping, but he can't weigh more than 150 pounds.. most likely less, so no excuses when I have a 3900lb car with me in it.
I had him at my rear wheels both runs by about 100. One last run was a highway run where we went from a 40 mph start.. I ended up ahead of him on that run also.
It was funy though because of my freaking messed up shifter, I was literaly having to jump on the clutch and slam into gears as hard as I could, so you should be seeing me jumping in my seat every time I had to shift... really couldn't powershift it with the way the clutch was.
I dropped off the car today at the dealer, and these guys seemed pretty cool, they already knew about the mount, and will be installing that, and they were pretty receptive to my concerns about the clutch. Hopefully they will get it fixed this time. I got a 2004 GP GT as a loaner... not to shabby, so I am content.
There was a guy from that first dealership working at the one I dropped it off at today who saw me and told me my shifter is in... lol. I told him I am not going back after taking it to them four times.. hopefully this guy doesn't mess with my car now... I don't think he will. Still concerning though.

I wish, my buddy Awais who owns racingflix.com is the one who shot the videos. It is his M3 also.
I keep on asking him for them but I think he has been busy, or maybe just doesn't want to show them ;)
Anyways, he wants to run again, which is fine, as soon as I get the car back.
Next month I am going to have a 100 shot installed, and after that a heads and cam kit, and then I am going after his C5 :D

What are the hydraulics exactly? Close to the symptoms I was listing?
After this clutch is replaced, I am going all out. I will be making many trips to Speed Inc this summer. Clutch, heads cam, and nitrous for sure.
I just want whatever issues worked out first, but now screw this warrenty thing, it is too much hassle. I am going performance wise with products I know will work, for now on at least.

Gear selection is tough, in gear with me standing on the cutch pedal the car still creeps forward, the car will NOT go into reverse. Had to turn the car off just to get it into reverse but started the car and it wasnt in reverse. The dealer I went to I didnt buy it from but they have been on the board and I thought I helped them out enough for them to not be a dick to me. We'll see how that works itself out. The slave cylinder is not the same as the f-body otherwise I'd just do it all myself, but I really dont even want to bleed the hydraulics.

That sounds just like the problem the rest of us have been having that I had my clutch and flywheel replaced for. That problem is fixed now for me.

Those were my exact problems, I figured out I would get the car into reverse if I first put it in first, let it move alittle bit forward then I could get reverse gear.
The friction point was not longer in the middle of the clutch's play, it was all the way down to the floor, making the car easy to stall out.
They said they already replaced the clutch slave on my car, that was over 1000 miles before this problem started to happen.
I hope this time they will replace the flywheel and clutch, and see how bad I screwed up the sycro's and whatever else while grinding the gears (due to messed up clutch).
Anyone know what type of damage is done when you do hear and feel that grinding noise when the car is not in gear right?? How about having to force the shifter into reverse REALLY hard because I had to... does that mess up many things?

as long as you dont force it in you really dont do any damage. to be honest you really dont want them to go into the trans, you'd want to try to talk them into a new trans (works out cheaper anyways)

That's the way I think. Any factory shortcoming is easily fixed with aftermarket hi-po parts. I blew the clutch on mine with less than 100 miles on the car and instead of being tormented with another weak GM clutch, I paid the $$$ and got SPEC stage 3.

If it's any comfort edsmarronz, my GTO has around 3500 miles on it and no problems whatsoever. The only issue I had was the thunk sound in the rearend from a 1-2 hard shift, and that really isn't what I would have considered a big deal even if there was no fix for it.

I think that the vast majority of the problems have come from cars built in sept or oct (mine was the 3rd week of sept). I think your car will probably be just fine. I still don't really understand why a car that has been basically produced for the last several years should have all these start up problems though. :(

I just got a call from Pontiac today, I should be getting it back tomorrow. They said it was the clutch slave again.... hmmm. Alittle bit frustrated right now, but at the same time all I want back is my car. If this problem happens again say goodbye to the goat, I buying a ZO6, or 03 cobra. Even though I love this car a lot, I am already sick of it not being fixed right and having to drive around piece of crap loaner cars. I didn't pay 35K to drive 4 bangers and GM boats around for weeks. I guess if I do have patience if it does happen again I will demand something equal to this car.... another GTO or even a Trans am, no more of this crappy car sh*t.

This is what scares me about ever buying another Pontiac ;-(, I have had nothing but horror stories to share about every Pontiac / GMC dealer that I've bought from. Our Honda dealer is a class act, why can't the GM dealers be the same. Very sad.
How about this scam!! I've just realized from my "favorite" dealer Dan Tobin Pontiac. Refer back to posts about his Ebay antics, which he didn't sell one of I'm glad to say! So they advertise 24/7 service hours (or 8 to midnight or whatever), trouble is if you get in after 5pm and they don't finish your car, it is not looked at until 5pm the next day! Their excuse is that they want the same tech looking at it. BS as far as I'm concerned. Also it seems every time I call, I can only get the car in after 5pm so I am assuming that means they only do warranty work in the evening. Of course with their lowest paid wrenchers as well (know that one as a fact). Finally, I asked about Saturdays and he said they only do "maintenance" work on Saturdays, uggh.

Think of it this way. When my Chevy dealer first started offering service from 5pm to midnight, they would give you an appointment but if cars were being worked on during the day and weren't finished, then the next shift would continue to work on them. How do you think I felt when I took my pickup in with an appointment at 5pm, only to have them start working on it at 11pm! I raised hell! The purpose of offering service at night is to allow for people who work different shifts, who can only get the car there at night for whatever reason (and of course to make more money because service is the number one profit for a dealer, my sister is a controller at a Chevy dealer). About 3 months after doing nightly service, they changed their policy to what you described at your dealer. If you look at most dealers who have 24 hour service, you will see the same thing.

Unfortunately some Dealers are not very nice. Even Pontiac has to recruit from the human race. I lucked out in that I got a GREAT car and from a GREAT Dealer who proactively ordered in the 'thunk' fix and kept it ready for my next trip in for an Oil Change, all without even being asked or contacted about it. He lurks on this Forum, among others, to keep informed and is definitely performance oriented. He'd probably choke if I showed up with a Blower on top of a lunched motor with the Tach needle wrapped around the top peg, who wouldn't? A rational and reasonable situation, no problem. He knows I bounced off the limiter once and the circumstances because I told him so. No cautions, warnings, or issues in response.
Go with one of the sponsoring Dealers on the left margin, and talk about your concerns first. You'll get a Goat AND a load off your mind.... :)

This will most likely be the last time any dealership ever touches my car, I am sooo upset with the progress that they have made. I am soo upset that I have been paying so much for this car just to drive around a rent a car boat. If I really wanted to drive a Grand prix like this one I would have bought one from Enterprise.
I don't know what to do anymore, it seems noone from GM even cares. I bought one of their prize posession cars and they are just screwing me over.

I got an interesting call today from the dealer I took the car to get the 'thunk' fixed. He asked how the car was doing and if it fixed the problem. I said yes - and that right now I had no complaints about the car. He proceded to tell me that they fixed every car in their fleet per that service bulletin after they observed and fixed it on mine.
Now, blitzu - do a search for an email address for Jim Hopson. When the cars were first coming over, he was very helpful to people on this board. You might just be able to get some help if you shoot him an email explaining your situation. I never emailed him and don't know him personally, so I can't say for sure - but it might help.

Edit: I can't find his email address listed on the site. Maybe somebody who has it will see this and pm it to you or something. I'll look through some other stuff - 'cuz I thought it was on a letter maybe too...

Well I tend to disagree/agree with you, I am a night shift as you say "wrencher" and get paid $1 more an hour then some day shift guy, cause of the union i'm in. It is important for the same technician to work on a comeback or install a part they ordered.
Try this though call for an appointment during the night shift and i'd bet they would get you an appointment the next morning. For some reason its just an apedemic between all shops to have a "gay day shift" that does nothing but gravey work and no problem cars and leave all the BS for the night shift, they just pass the buck to the night shift.

GMH GTO, that concept is not unique to the automotive service industry. Passing problems from one shift to the next is very common in the manufacturing industry as well. I think it is an example of some people's pitiful work ethic. Personally, I enjoy the challenges. Makes the shift go by so much faster. I do NOT enjoy, however, having to fix some lazy slob's screw up. But I'm a salaried worker in a Union shop and there isn't a damn thing I can do about it. I am not the manager, just the guy who fixes everything. The managers are scared sh*tless about getting a grievence filed on them and SOME (certainly not all) Union workers take advantage of their protection. It is a pet peeve of mine, for sure.

First of all I could only wish to be a "wrencher" some day, hope you didn't take that as a dig.
I've called at all different hours of the day, but all I get is after 5 appt's but then again I haven't specifically asked for a day appt. What do you think about the warranty work only in the evening theory? What I don't get is why that is not presented up front! It wasn't till after I had my car there and they told me it wouldn't be looked at till the next day after 5. I was like WTF and then he told me how it really works. I wouldn't have been so PO'd if he would have just told me the way it worked up front. You always have to dig to get real answers. Don't even get me started on the "have to duplicate the problem" issue as well! LMAO.
It boils down to this, I don't think I've ever had a pleasant experience on the buying or the service end of a GM product. I'd think it was me, but I had a great experience with a Honda I had. It's just a shame and I agree that Pontiac / GM doesn't much care. I still want a GXP or GTO and hopefully Spitzer will be the place to buy and I have 1 Pontiac dealer within proximity to try for the service end...

Update:
Got the GTO back last night... it's clutch is surprisingly smooth now. After being out for over a week and a half, they fixed the following. Replaced the clutch slave again, and the master cylinder, replace the bearing and pressure clutch plate. They found the pressure clutch plate bolts were under torqued so they put it upto specs. The also installed the updated rear suspension mount for the rattle sound.
All in all the car feels good now, it will actually go into reverse without any significant force applied. The clutch feels very forgiving right now which makes it a pleasure to shift, but also takes some getting use to since I was so use to it being bad before.
Only complaint I had is when I went to pick it up last night which was after they closed, I found a nice new door ding, but the dealer said they would fix.
The wait was alittle bit longer than expected, but I could not wait to get back into it, the car is amazingly fun to drive, so any wait was worth it.
Hopefully the problem does not re-occur.

Nice to see that they honored the door ding with a fix. Some dealers are like that (Mine is), but from what I hear, there are not a lot of them out there that are not. Anyway, glad you got your ride, and smile, back.

Yeah when I went to pick it up there was a salesman outside that say me notice the door ding... so he gave me his business card if I was to have any problems to say that he acknowledged me seeing it when I picked it up.
They didn't argue because the car was spotless and waxed when I brought it in, there was really no way they could say it happened out of their possesion... either way it's good they are taking care of it.
Now all I need is a day off to enjoy it :)
