me and u guy at work were arguing over how to read the sidewall of a tire i said the 1st number is the width. the 2nd is the rubber around the rim and the 3rd is well you know. he says the 1st and 2nd or a complete 180 from what i said .......which one is correct? example if a stock ire is 245/40/18 and im getting a really good deal on some bfg 245/45/18 will it be a narrower tire or just be a bit taller? thanks

first number is width in millimeters, 2nd number is the height of the sidewall. For example...a 245/40 is 245mm wide, and the sidewall is 40% of the first number.

To answer your questions, the 245/45 would be taller
