like the title says ... a friend of mine that was going to sell me his BBS RGRs decided not to sell them . so i decided to just stick some really sticky meet to my current wheels. and i decided that some toyo R888 in the back and proxes t1r would be just what the dr ordered for me and the 430+ rwhp i'll be making in a couple weeks ,and then the 500+ rwhp i'll be making at the end of the summer.
does anyone know where to get these things ?

http://www.edgeracing.com - should carry them but I don't really understand why you're getting a road race compound for your power?

what tires would you recommend ? i want it to handle really well, and stick really well. so i dont want drag radials but i need something that sticks like glue... i thought about just going T1R all the way around. youre making about the same power on youre goat that i'll be making at the end of the week, what worked well for you ?
as far as the compound, i am planning on retiring the goat to toy status when i get a company truck. but am still open to new ideas.
just rode in the turbo m3 and even with 265 road race compounds on it, it couldnt hook up.

to be honest dude, youre gonna be having traction problems no matter what tire you run, unless you do burnouts at every stoplight to keep the tires hot.
might as well just go with a very good street tire, IMO

i kind of thoguht the same thing. i was also thinking of the kumho mx but have heard they are not the great for grip. i have heard all good things about the t1r though. just wish i could get a 265 on my stock wheels. looks like they make one, but according to the guidelines they are too wide for the 8. however i saw 275s on 8.5s today and i thought it looked good. so maybe i'll try the 265

thought about it but dont want drag radials and hear bad feedback on regular 555

I ran the 555s with a Maggie and a 2.7 pulley...they worked fine on the street for the tire you are getting

T1Rs might be the worst tires around IMO.....want to handle well and have some good rubber get some RE01R Bridgestones....nothing really outhandles them in a street tire and they can handle some good power.

man, tire selection is so hard. i looked at the RE01R and they just dont come in the sizes i want.

Try the Falken RT-615 or Nitto 555R2

what about kumho ecsta mx ? 255 out back.
also thinking now about just having 2 wheels widened and going 275s.
edit _ i did look at the falkens a while back, they seem to be pretty nice and get good reviews. also look fairly soft.

I dunno much about the Kumhos...the Falkens are a great road course street tire, are cheap and might be worth trying for your needs. But as hummina said with 430whp it really doesn't matter what you run, nothing will really hook unless it's over 275 wide.

After running them for about 10K miles... I have to agree. I'm going to be getting something different when these are done.
Just have to find something in the right sizes that match. :bomb:

i dont care much about front and back matching, all i want is something that grips a little.

What dont you like about them? Mine just suck for traction (which I attributed to thin sidewalls) and howl a bit

I'll back up pretty much everthing City has said here... I had T1R's, just my personal opinion. But meh...
For the road course work, I run Falken RT-615 (245x40-18 & 275x35-18). VERY happy with how they stick. Now this is cornering, not straight line drag race (stiff sidewall vs flex). Search for a recent thrd I wrote w/ pics.
Bridgestone RE-01s are supposed to be the next step up from the RT-615's. "They" say it deals with heat better. The Auto-X crowd has swtiched to this from the RT-615's for the street tire class. But they are a little more $$. Of course both of those tires are gonna wear FAST. And after a while are gonna suck pretty bad in the rain.
Got $$$, maybe PS2's ? Lotta folk like them, but dayum they cost.
As for me, while the Falken's are off, I'm running the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx on the street. Wanted a good tire to handle rain if I get in it, and a little better wear. Not many miles but so far so good.
Oh, and I don't ever like mixing tires brands if you really want to push it.

I didn't like the R1R, got to do some development on it....same w/ the R888..I have a set of R888 in 255/40's that have been sitting in a closet for a year now waiting for me to get wheels they'll fit on (oh how I miss my old job....)

265 BFG KDW NTs hook real well in my car, just quick chirps in 1-2-and 3 Third may not slip if I were not running 19s

Im running nitto 555s with 434whp and 440wtq. The traction is comparable to driving on a frozen pond, you'll hate em, $.02

Really? i thought they were great. Also the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 StarSpec too.
hey, I love my T1R's so what do I know ;)
They are a good tire....I just wasn't a HUGE fan...but then again....I came onto them after doing testing on Ra1's and R888's

As said before man, it really doesn't matter what you run (between all other good tires) because with that kind of power you are always gonna have a hard time with traction with the sizes we are discussing.

why are T1Rs bad? For someone like me who's looking for a tire with great lateral grip, which the T1R has, I'm not sure why the T1R is any worse than the RE01R. I'm curious since I might purchase these tires once I get wheels in the future

Sorry guys missed this until today...
how do the falken 615's compare to the RE01Rs?
The BFG KD was one of the first really aggressive street tires to come out and really be able to run harddddddddddddd on tracks....RT-615 after that, better compound = better times.....now the RE-01R is the shiz.
They are all good but search for some tirerack/grassroots motorsports autocross and road race data. Same car, same day, same track the results are almost always:
1. RE01R
2. RT615
3. KD

What exactly makes it have great lateral grip?
Any of these tires on the street you may not notice a difference at all. When you start pushing the limits of a compound though then you'll appreciate why you chose one over the other.
Ask the guys on this forum like Black Devil or other folks who tracked a T1R....ask the same group how they like the 615s or RE01Rs they tracked. Night and day differences of having confidence and not sliding around a track.

Want to get a good idea at what really handles well on the limit? Just go out to an Auto-X or Road track and look.
RE-01R's & RT-615's are the majority of the 'street tires' that you'll see on the experienced racers. Both of these tires have A LOT more tread on the sidewall and won't chunk/roll over nearly as easy as most street tires. Pull up pics and look at the tread block particularly the edge. It’s big, rounded and thick... (wow, does that sound wrong!) All this should mean less squirm and better lateral grip.
Plus, both of these have a cap that once they get hot acts and looks just a lot like R-compound rubber. Sticky as shit!
As for T1R's, just me but I felt the compound was a little hard. Hell, just do a spirited launch/burnout. See how much rubber you left? I never seemed to leave much if any. And they do have a 280 tread wear compared to 140/180 & 200 for the other two mentioned. (Granted TW means little between brands).
