View Full Version : Opinion needed about what bodyshop did to my tires.

I was in a small fender bender and my wheels got scratched up. The guys insurance is paying to repair my AZA's. I pick the car up from the body shop and it vibrates really bad on the freeway.
To make a long story short I check road force or balance on my tires at work cause I figured it was just a few ounces off and the rims are straight but the tires are wobbling like mad on the balancer. I just got the wheels and tires 3 months ago and I never ran over anything.
I dropped it off to have them repaint the fender that had dirt in it and I discussed it with the manager and they are looking into it.
My point is if I dropped it off and it was as smooth as glass and pick it up wobbling what are my options??? What should I do?

They could have just overtourqed the wheel on the side the fender was replaced. My guessis they had to remove it. Have you already checked the tourqe, air pressure, and balance? I see you said you were going to check it. But nothing that says you have done so yet.

The wheels are fine. They must have tried to dismount the tires the regular way causing them to be stretched over the top side instead of flipping them over and removing them the proper way. The staggered wheels have a huge lip and you cant remove them from the top side.

it could be that they just took the rim off the car and when they re-mounted it, it was mounted on top of corrosion that existed from the rims touching the hub.
just take your tire off, clean the mounting surfaces and torque your rim properly. that might be all it takes to fix your problem
sometimes people overlook the easy solutions and try to find the worse case senario

The rims and tires are 3 months old. Plus I live in the rust free zone of Texas.
I just want to know if I should make the body shop pay for my tires or bitch to the insurance company or just go spend 800 bucks on new tires when mine have still about 3/4 tread left?

it has nothing to do with rust free areas. it has to do with two different alloys coming in contact with each other, and that's what causes the problems
have you even tried any of the advice you have been given in this thread yet, or are you still just fuming at the bodyshop for something that probably is an easy fix and should be a non-issue?
I honestly can't see how this is the bodyshop's fault, unless there is more that you aren't telling us?

So did you even try to balance them since you have access to the machine? Your post doesn't really make a lot of sense.
I see... so your WHEEL is straight, but your TIRE is F-ed.
Either they broke a cord in the tire trying to dismount/mount the tires on the rim or you never reached the same speed when you dropped the car off that you're seeing now with the wobble. If you were in a fender bender that the wheel was scratched, I'd believe that it's possible that the tire got screwed up in the accident... Unless you're 100% sure it was fine before you sent it in.
