guys i have searched and searched with no avail. so here is what i am looking for. I want to put 315's on my car. now i have my fenders cut and rolled as well as drag bags installed. 18 inch rims prefferably but not mandatory. I want to put big streetable DOT slicks on. I need the cheapest but good looking rims. I don't know much about the tire and wheel stuff so please throw me a bone. I got my wife to let me get some slicks after she watched me slide all over the track on multiple passes with 245 street tires. I have the hp/tq to run super fast just not enough rubber. remember it has to be as cheap as possible.

Slicks or drag radials? Just get a pair of Mickey Thompson ET Street drag radials in 275-40-17 (finding anything decent in 18" size will be tough).

drag radials. i need streetable traction. Rim diameter isn't as important to me as proper offset and traction. wider is better. I need info on the offset i would need aswell. I would really like to get at least 285's but will settle for 275's if need be. I need some numbers here guys.

You'll want at least 9" wheels for the rear with as close to stock offset as possible (48mm). I'm running 45mm offset on a pair of 17X9 wheels with M/T 275-40-17. Plenty of traction with M/T ET Street drag radials.

Sounds like a pretty sound setup.

I would say that a 275 is for sure with a the above offsets (or so) and a 285 would certianly need the fenders rolled/cut

what i am trying to do is push the limits of the fender and suspension on width. my fenders are already rolled and cut. I also have drag bags installed. is there anyway that higher than 285 will fit?

From my experience the largest tire you can put on the rear is a 275 with the fenders rolled. One of our shop goats has Nitto NT 555's in 275/40/17 with the rear fenders rolled and still rubs on a hard launch.

285's are possible with an offset of 52mm-55mm. You will need to have some thin spacers to fine tune at the end. I am running falken 715s in a 275 and still have 1/2 outside clearance with no cut and roll. I am also lowered a good 1.75 ". Best thing to do to fine tune is to put the rear up on stands and pull the springs out. You then put a jack under the control arm and swing it completely thru an arc while spinning the tire. No rub, you should be good to go.

good info now when you say 52mm-55mm offset i need it to be more specific info, i am very inexperienced with the wheel stuff.

Well there aren't alot of wheels to chose from. Some well probably be 5x4.75 bolt paterns. I think ROH is close in some of their wheels. There are some multi piece wheels that can be made with any offset (expensive). These offsets add 52-55mm to the inside of the wheel. Or the wheel is 52-55mms wider to the inside from the center line (mounting surface).

so what your are saying is from the car side lip of the rim to the mounting surface needs to be 52-55mm more than stock? What is the stock measurement? what would be the total measurement from the mount surface to the back/car side of rim? and what width rim will I need for say 275 MT Street ET? also what would be a good diameter? Sorry for all the questions i have done alot with the workings of cars just not the tires and wheels.

I need the cheapest but good looking rims.

How about we do this...

GTO wheel selection is somewhat limited, and as such price often determines how close you're able to get to optimal wheel size/offset and therefore tire size.

What do you plan to spend on the wheels (rim only)?

No, he's saying you might try wheels with 52-55mm offset. I already told you what the stock offset is and that's 48mm.

You keep harping about 285 drag radials. Have you even found anything in that size? I know Mickey Thompson don't make that size. Not seeing anything in BFG. Negative on Hoosier. Looks like Nitto makes a 555 drag radial in 285-35-18. Nitto tends to run a little narrower than other brands. You might squeeze that in there ok. But, I'd be willing to bet a M/T 275 would still hook better.

Cheapest thing to do is to get some 17" OEM wheels and put some 275/40/17 MT ET Streets on them. Going with a 285 is pointless over a 275, especially when Nitto are the only ones that make a 285 Drag Radial. The ET Streets will hook like a mofo and it's a cheap way to go. Have a good day.

ok so the stock 17's are good for 275's? or do i NEED a wider rim? i am trying to get as wide as possible I have no idea what is out there that is why i am asking yall.

Plenty of people use the stock wheel for 275 tires. I ran 275 Nittos for a year on stock wheels, but the 8" wheels are really too narrow. With 275 tires, you really need a 9" wheel like I said back in post #8. Here is what my M/T 275-40-17 look like on 17X9 rear wheels.

Try this to see how much more/less clearance you'll have with the new rims/tires. Stock is 8" with 48mm offset. Just type in your new specs and go measure your car to see if it'll fit.

look at my sig, im fine. but my fenders do need to be rolled. i am against that, so im down grading to 275. 275 is probably ur best bet, you should get enough traction for ur mods listed. just make sure u back off the gas a little when starting out.

Have you thought about getting your wheels widened? I can't say how much they'll be but I heard it's not too bad.

I had my wheels widened by wheel pros here on Long Island. It cost me $200 a wheel but if you think about it you only have to have two wheels done. That is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying 4 new ones. I run a 275 on my car, fenders rolled, still rub!
