I picked up an XDm-40 pistol last week. It is pretty nice. the 16 round magazine is nice too. I also got an XD-9 Tactical with a 5" barrel at the same time and shooting them one after the other the XDm has a better trigger and ballance to it. I like them both though and they work great. I am sending the XDm off to get a match trigger and other goodies put into it. When it comes back it should be very nice. If the XDm comes back with an awesome trigger job I will have to send in the XD-9 in to get some trigger word done on it as well so they are both on the same playing field.

Congrats, I own a couple XD's as well and am eying the XDm for sure.
Who is doing your trigger work? Springfield's Custom Shop does INCREDIBLE work as does Springer Precision and Canyon Creek.

Bandit> I am having Powder River Precision INC do the trigger work. They are a very prominent site sponsor and vendor on the XDTalk forum. There are literally hundreds of happy customers posting up there for there so I figure they are good to work with.

I just got to rent one of these at the local range, and I must say I am tempted to get one. It is a lot of fun to shoot. My only gripe was that the grooves in the grip really want you to keep your thumb straight out, and I tend to keep both thumbs more upward just off of the slide.
How much does it cost for a trigger job?

YouHolden?> Powder River Precision INC is charging $150 for the below changes.
Reducing trigger take up
Swapping to a softer trigger spring
Polish the Striker and Sear
Minimizing trigger Over travel

Awesome, not bad. Would you mind briefly describing the procedures for shipping the pistol? I assume you must get a gun dealer to ship it for you or no? Pardon my ignorance, the only firearms I have are heirlooms, bought from a dealer, or made from parts kits.
Also, do they have a website?

YouHolden?> Sure, its not hard to do. All you need is the receiving Gunsmith's Federal Firearms License (FFL) number. Then you HAVE TO ship it Overnight via FedEx or UPS. Once you have that stuff all you have to do is package it up take it to the shipping place, give them the FFL and your Shipping $$$ and its shipped. Easy as that.
I have listed the URL for Powder River Precision below. Since this isn't a GTO compeditor I assume its ok to post the URL. If it isn't then the mod's can feel free to remove the URL.

Well my pistol is done and will be shipping back to me on Friday. I plan on taking it to the range to give it a test run after the trigger mods. I will post up some pics of the work done when I get it.

I got my XDm back on Friday and tried it out at the range. All I can say is WOW!!! Virtually all of the trigger take up and over travel is gone. The Trigger spring tension is 3lbs and all associated trigger striker and sear parts have been aligned and polished. It shoots a LOT better than before. I can easily shoot 3 inch groups at 7 - 10 yards if I take my time with each shot. I really like this pistol. It works really good.
If you are looking for some excellent quality gunsmith work done on your Springfield pistols look up Powder River Precision. They are top notch!!!
I will try to get some pics taken soon and post them up.

Here are some range results at 15 Yards with both my pistols. Not the best, but not the worst either. I am still trying to get comfortable with gripping the pistols in a way that allows me to be accurate and still hold it secure enough to fire it fairly rapid. Now that the XDm's trigger is reworked it is way easier to shoot it consistently and accurately.
there ya go! cool! SA custom shop is very very good. congrats!

Played with an XDm a few days ago.. man that stock trigger BLOWS. I mean really bad. I see why you wanted the trigger job so badly.
Nice work, enjoy the gun.

I love the feel of the XD's in my hand but do NOT want that grip safety for On-Duty use.

Underoath> I believe that the new XD's have a thumb safy switch as well as the grip and trigger safty. I have only seen a couple of those in person though as they are pretty new.

Bandit> It is night and day different than the stock trigger. I can shoot the XDm, then pick up the XD-9 and shoot it and the trigger is horrible when I compare them back to back. I will be sending the XD-9 in for the same trigger work that was done on the XDm. Then they should be on the same playing field.

Well I probably have over 1500 rounds through the XDm now and it just keeps getting better and better. Or maybe I am? I added a Brooks Tactical A-Grip to it and that helps a lot with keeping the grip locked in when firing fast. I have an extended magazine release coming and a heavy Guide Rod as well. The heavy guide rod should keep the muzzle flip down a little more and I am eager to test it out. I should be getting those this week and will go back to the range to see how she does with the new goodies. Shown below are my 15 yard target results from today. From 7 Yards I can regularly get 2 - 3 inch groups. Shooting the same target at 15 yards gets tuff as the front sight covers almost 50% of the black portion of the target when aiming. I am happy with how it shoots, but more practice is needed for sure.
I also had a chance to rent a couple of different 1911's. I had never shot one before and after shooting those things it makes the XDm feel like a tinker toy. I can forsee a 1911 in my near future as they are head and shoulders better than what I currently have. I am going to start shooting some IDPA matches first with my XDm though to see how I do. If my skills are far off of what they should be it would make no sense to step up to a 1911 until I can fully utilize it.
I got the Don's Solid Guide rod today and went to the range for some back to back testing with the stock guide rod. I didn't give the 15yard target a try today as my main goal was to compare the muzzle flip differences between the two guide rods on double taps and rapid fire conditions. The heavier solid guide rod really does help with taming down the muzzle flip. I was able to do consistant double taps at 15 feet and maintain a 2 - 3 inch groups on the shots. This is a LOT better than before where I would have an 5 - 8 inch wonder of the bullets on double taps with the stock guide rod and going the same speed with the shots. I am going to try to add 1oz of lead weight to the grip (under the changable back plate) to see if that calms down the muzzle flip even more.
Now if I could only find somone that makes lighter recoil springs for the XDm I could continue with my testing to optimize this pistol. I sent an e-mail to Wolff Springs asking them if they made any but I am yet to get a response. Does anyone else know who might be offering optional lb recoil springs for the XDm?
