View Full Version : What's in a name?

I'm struggling for inspiration.

Working with a fellow GTO member who is a website guru on a web page for the custom gunmaking business I'm about to start.

What I don't want is the typical Alpha male sounding business name that is so overdone when it comes to firearms.

Just something simple with maybe some elegance.

Feel free to chime in if anyone has any suggestions. Doesn't even have to be gun related really.

An example: www.nesika.com I managed this place prior to coming to Iraq. Nesika Bay is nothing more than a body of water out in Washington State.

That's the kinda thing I'm after I think. (stick to what you are used to I guess right?)

I know there's folks here lots smarter than I am. Feel free to voice your opinion.

Thanks.

check out my friend's (Ned) website. http://www.m-guns.com/index.html

He calls his business Michiguns Ltd. I really never knew the name of his company. When you want exotic stuff, you just call/email Ned. You may be placing too much emphasis on a name, when it is the recognition and reputation you want. Do super-quality work and the rest will take care of itself.

I'm actually pondering "Oasis"

No reference to gun anything. Just "Oasis"

WHY

It's my "Oasis" from the sandbox (Been in Baghdad over two years now)

dunno, still pondering.

Hmm not bad. I think you need a name that will make your guns stand out. Similar to how people would say thats A "Nesika" thats a "GAP" thats a "Surgeon". Hmm how about Haven arms. As in your haven from the sandbox. (Just looked up synonyms for oasis, am no way that smart on my own ahaha).

A friend of my dad's told me a story about some mountain in Alaska called Powding Mountain. He asked why it was called that and one of the local Indians told him to get his rifle and he'd show him. So the dude grabbed his gun, sat down at a rest and shot the target the Indian told him to shoot, which was WAAAAY across this gorge. Basically it went like this:

POW!---------------------------------------------------------------------DING!

There you go.

Can O worms has been opened. Stand by:

I do bolt guns mostly.

Competitive (100 yard any/any, PALMA, Silhouette, International smallbore, NRA Highpower, smallbore prone, International 300meter, NBRSA hunter bench, F class, and the rest I'm neglecting to mention)

Sporting (light hunter, dangerous game, big bore, Long range hunter, varmint, sheep guns, etc)

Tactical (Urban, light tac, Heavy tac, extended LR stuff)

Pistols (hunter and unlimited silhouette, rapid fire bullseye, 10 meter air)

Tis what I've been doing for the past eight years minus this little detour to the sand box.

Ritalin version: I build a rifle based on your needs/desires. Notice I didn't say budget. These aren't cheap. They start around 4K and just get more ridiculous from there. Imagination should be your only limit when calling to discuss an order.

Long winded version: (I'll stick this in if there's genuine interest, don't want to just talk for sake of hearing my own "voice".)

Anyways. That's me. . .

Thanks for asking.

There's lots more. Just this damn connection speed here, our pipe sucks. I have to go through them still. I found more that I'd forgotten about.

I have some drafts for the Home/products thing that you needed.

Powding is actually kinda cool.

Still pondering. . .

no sniper names or "death" names. It's not all that I do.

A 300M international rifle is about the last thing you want to try and shoot someone with.

Chad, I've seen some of your work, very impressive. There's a local guy here in OK who runs a business modifying guns called Accurate Iron. I thought it was a cool name for a gunsmith/builder. Good luck!

IDK, if it was me it would end up being "damn good guns" or something cheesy like that.
I like Oasis though.

What's your ideal material to work with?

Maybe something like "Iron Javelin LLC"? Or "Carbon Lance LLC"?

My GF's got some great titties LLC? :gr_jest:

I'm thinking I'll just stick with "LongRifles, Inc."

It's not terribly masculine sounding, but that's allright. The products sell themselves so. . .

I build these silly things from all sorts of materials. Woods, laminates, synthetics, Stainless, chromoly, titanium, etc. . Just depends on the application and what the customer wants really.

thanks for the help gents.

How about
Rifles Only

There is a training facility on Texas called Rifles Only but they don't make rifles, just teach people how to shoot them.

How about "precision twist customs"? The name doesn't really have any "gun" sound unless you already have turning bolts and rifleing on the brain.
