I've been thinking about buying one since they came out. Something nice and small to conceal during these hot summer months but still strong enough for one shot one kill.

.45GAP is a joke, at least in the United States, where you cant help but trip over boxes of .45ACP, in a myriad of loadings.

Given that the ballistics of .45GAP and .45ACP +P loads are roughly freaking identical, and that you can readily stock up AND PRACTICE WITH standard and +P .45ACP ammo comparatively cheaply, I suggest:

Glock 30 = Subcompact double-stack in .45ACP, equivalent to the G39
Glock 36 = Subcompact single-stack in .45ACP, no available equivalent in .45GAP

There are some differences in the ballistics. My dad has that Glock and loves it. He trained with it some and its an accurate .45. Also, the GAP ammo is much more readily available now than when Glock introduced it.

Come on. Seriously guys. I'm asking for advice and while i know it's the lounge I figured things are different in this section.

I don't see a reason to go with .45GAP. I'd pick .357sig first for exotic ammo.

But, I don't see a reason to buy a glock either. If you have to have polymer, look at the compact M&P and Xd's. Both are nice.

.45 power in a slightly smaller package. Your trading a smaller grip for less options in loads and availability.

Really judgement calls. Go hold both, and if you smaller frame is better for you - there you go!

.45 GAP would not be my first choice out of the glock model's available. If you want a .45 you can carry, get a .45 ACP, G30 or G36. When you buy a gun, especially for a carry piece, you want to be very good with that gun. Part of being good with it is to practive, a lot. .45 GAP generally tends to be a more pricey round and is not as available. If you order all your ammo of the internet, than it won't be a problem. But if you want to go to the range and stop by WalMart for some ammo, you won't find any GAP.

Since the balistics are near the same, size and accuracy are nearly the same, the real area where the ACP model's shine over the GAP model's is in ammo price/selection/availability. So I'd get something I could get ammo almost anywhere for (.45 ACP is one of the most common rounds ever). I'd get something that had a lot of different loads in that caliber.

As far as I read here in my Glock Annual, since the GAP is shorter, the grip frame is slightly shorter in the 37/8/9 Glocks. The magazine featured several articles about how different agencies are powering up with the GAP round. Among them are SC state police and NYS police. The full size (37) is slightly smaller to hold than the 21. Funny thing is around here all the muni's carry Glock 21's in .45acp. NYSP were carrying G17's in 9mm until 2007. They are ALL .45 GAP now. The ballistics are excelent and according to tests as good if not better than the ACP with less felt recoil. I'd buy one as a novelty, but the 30 or 36 seem to be the way to go. On the other hand, the grip frame may be slightly smaller in the 39 than the 30 so it may fit you differently.

Thing about the GLOCKS is I now swear by them, but only the 4" barreled versions. they point perfect for me, but the sub compacts and full size guns just dont' feel half as natural as the 23/19/38 size models do.

I wish Glock made a .45ACP compact...like a 21's little brother. I wonder why they dont??

45GAP is a 45 cal Slug in a 19mm length casing (same length as 9mm) so it will fit in the "standard" Glock grip size, (Glock17/19/26/22/23/27) The double stack .45ACP Glocks(21/30) have a much larger grip.

My advice to you is to check out both the Glock 39 and the Glock 36 (The 36 is chambered for .45ACP) and see which you like best. Bothe models have the same capacity of 6+1.

Is there a range in your area that rents guns for you to try? If you can try both and see what works best for you. If you can't then I recomend the Glock 36 over the 39 for two reason.

1) I have not seen practice 45GAP ammo at my Wal-Mart or Dick's sporting goods.
2) Like someone else said: 45GAP is an answer to a question no one asked.

They do, it's called the Glock 30.

The 30 is a "sub"compact not a compact like the G23/G19 (.40/9mm)

The G30 is called a brick. Horrible for a personal carry weapon.

Out Department switched over to the 45 GAP - G37 last year.

Great round and gun to shoot. I would def recommend the G37, G38, G39

I have shot at least 3000 rounds of GAP ammo so I hope i hope I know what I am

talking about.

I carry the G39 as my off duty/back up weapon.

Light enough to carry on the ankle but you still get a 45 round.
