You tighten the barrel all the way down and bring it back out two clicks. I guess he forgot the first bit about tightening it.

First of all that doesn't go for every M2 50. cal., timing and headspace must be set every time the weapon is assembled. Second of all there is no way that barrel was threaded properly. That soldier needs a little retrain action.
