Auto-x in the rain.
Sunday, I attended my first autocross since purchasing the GTO and I still haven't stopped smiling. Yeah its a little heavy, and the stock tires are a bit under sized for handeling this kind of bulk and power, but it sure is fun anyway.
The event was at Ft Devens MA and luckily the SCCA constructed a course that wasn't too tight for the GTO. Sometimes they don't like to let the high HP cars have much chance to strench their legs, but this course wasn't too bad.
Additionally, I had a chance to meet another forum member and together we did our best to represent the GTO gang. Oh by the way, we were both faster through the course than the one 05 mustang GT.
It did rain for a little while but in the afternoon we were able to get in some good dry runs. I ran a best of 75.3 with one cone. Not terrible but the winning Z-28 in F-stock ran 70.xx with slicks. A slick tired Z-06 was getting down to 63.xx. The mustang was a best of 77.xx in stock form.

So what are your plans? Will you be getting a set of Auto-X tires? Or do you plan to keep running with the stockers? Here in the Rocky Mountain region they have an AT class for F-Stock legal cars running street tires.
I am no longer legal for F-Stock and don’t plan on buying the tires to run in ESP. So now I am stuck running with EVO VIIIs and STIs in the STU Class. When I ran in AT I was beating up on the C5s and now in STU I am the one getting beat’n up on. :(

I'm sure a set of tires will end up on my credit card statement sometime. I've still got to do some research first.
I'd love to run in a class that was disigned to protect the street tire faithful. My thoughts have always been that its run what you brung. That doesn't mean change tires first, but if I want to be competitive I guess thats my only choice.

VtGoat, I grew up in VT about 30 minutes north of Killington in Rochester. How are those frost heaves treating the GTO?

Yeah that would be good but as with anything there will always be someone with more money and will buy the "BEST" street tire for autoX and use the tires for that only and change them at the event.. its just natural. there will always be someone that wants to win more than you.
but trust me changing tires for an event makes the car soooooooooo much more fun.. I will never go back to street tires. I like turn-in. . hehe

I ran mine with the Akron Sports Car Club at LCCC. I ran in A-stock with a C4 Crovette that had race rubber and stock M3 SMG. The M3 driver was new to his car as I was to mine. Mine is completely stock. The course was tight and technical which don't allow the hp cars to show their stuff. I never left 1st but was up to 40+ MPH.

I'd trade my all season, 400 wear rating tires for the M3's Conti-Sports any day for a better comparison. :)
