I am getting a WW II german lugar 9mm that was my grandfathers, and before him my great uncle. My great uncle was a one star in WW II and took this lugar with the paper work and the orginal holster! Do not think it has been shot but a couple of times. I won't sell it ever,,but does anyone have an idea of who much it may be worth? The gun was never fired and brand new when my great uncle took it.

Well I now have the gun! It is a 1915 DWN. From what I can tell it was a WW I, not WWII?!?. All numbers match on it,holster has extra clip, with a tool in the tool pouch. Condition is between excellent and very good. Holster is stamped 1939 with the eagle above the **** swastika (sp?)...Also both clips have metal ends, not wood, with the same eagle stamp. I can not find anything on this! Found some that are close,,but not any real 1915..?I am thinking that some german had this "older" lugar and got new clips, and a holster? PIA to find a value on it for insurance reasons! Where is antique road show going to be this weeken? :-)

No idea how much it is worth, but why would you want to sell something like that with so much family history? Man, that'd be hard for me to part with.

I never understood Lugers. You go to the gun show and people have ROWS and ROWS of Lugers and I've neverseen anyone buy them but people still ask for several thousands of dollars for them.

What ever happened to stuff only being worth as much as someone will pay for it?

Yes, it looks as if you luger is 1915, DWM (Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken) WWI Imperial Luger . The magazines and holster are WWII. Nice inheritance, DAMN nice:turbonaug
Gun value alone is prob $2000. If the holster, and mags ser #'s matched it would be worth more.

Some site I saw that specializing in brokering those Lugars said not to fire these?? I might put a clip through it though :-) Just wonder what this thing is worth?

Thanks again

Blue Book lists the value at 2,000. If your magazines were matching, the value would be double.

some collectors should be SHOT...lol
make sure its very clean,I had a P08 luger go full-automatic on me because the sear got stuck...rapid 4 round burst with me expecting single shot=:bomb:

Cool! I had my 1911 do that to me once!! It was stolen, police got it back,,looked ok,,no obvious problems until I shot it!!! Was kind of cool! lol

I was thinking around the same thing because of everything I have read....Like I said,,my great uncle, a genral from WW II "got" this from the war,,I am sure it was an officers from WW I who later had it in WW II,,new clips and holster for the "new" war....

Does it have a number stamped on the back or front of the grip strap? It should be a few letters and numbers long. This will help trace who it was issued to. Mine had one that I thought was from the war. It ended up being the rail road signal police from Düsseldorf. It shoots great for having little sights. The amount of machining that went into each one is amazing. You can tell if it is a police rework or not from the safety latch and the trigger. If they are blued then they were reworked. If they are a golden color then it is worth more and hasn't been touched.

Check the caliber before you shoot it. Some were made in a different caliber. Not all are MM. The measurements are taken from the lands not the grooves like on modern firearms. Mine had the caliber stamped on the bottom of the barrel near the frame that i had to lookup and convert to tell that it was 9mm. It wont just say MM.

Good piece. I will keep mine forever. I have a similar story as you.

look at the above pics? The name on the back of the holster? I wonder if that is the person it was issued to?
