I'm sure if you're a gun enthusiast, you've seen some of my thoughts on CCW's, but I have no problems with guns in general, especialyl for sport etc.
Anyway, I'm looking into getting MY first pistol (been borrowing my dads and brothers) and wanted to know what you guys thought about the Glock 22 .40
I've been shooting .40 for 'years' (i've been going roughly 3x a year) unfortunately I cannot remember the model, but it is an S&W (dad's), but have not had any experience with the Glock.
Anyway, you guys are all crazy knowledgable about this, so I figured I'd hit you up before reading gun forums.

Glock 22 is a fine full size gun. I'd suggest when you're Glock shopping, also try the equivalent Springfield XD. Equally good gun (not intending to spur endless debate here), but it points a little differently than the Glock. One of them will probably point better for you than the other. Not a huge deal, but why retrain to point a new gun if you don't have to?
Of course, it seems like there's a new polymer 40 or 45 coming out about every other month these days, so you may want to try a couple of others also.

Good choice, I have the 23 and 27, but have shot my friends 22 before I got both of them. Great range gun, ammo is just a bit more expensive than the 9mm, which doesn't matter to me. Go to the gun shop and hold the 22 and comparable models. Get whichever one feels comfortable in your hand and you will be able to shoot for an hour or so without hurting your hand. If you can, shoot it before you buy it (rent it).

Yeah, I'm going to a range next week with some guys born and raised in texas, apparently they have quite a few guns I can try out - and rent others to see what I like.

My first handgun was a glock 19. I carry it when I feel the need but the size will quickly make you want a smaller gun for every day carry. Glock is fun to shoot, but there is smaller stuff out there.

Strictly for the range :)

Good suggestion, there.

If strictly for the range, you may want to look into a steel frame pistol. Many would say they are more enjoyable to shoot then a polymer frame.

Strictly for the range :)
In that case you should also consider the G35. Same frame/grip, longer barrel and slide.

strictly for the range? i'd get a G17 if you're set on a glock
if it were for anything else i'd tell you to ditch the .40 and get a .45

I've had several people convince me that a CZ 75b is well worth it, even if 9mm.
Even the guys at the gunstore were like "Nah, i wish I had one - let alone one for rentals"
