but really who what when where. I need your help!
I want to get a semi automatic rifle just incase osama..i mean obama becomes president. Although everyone says "it will never pass" he wants to make all semi automatic weapons illegal from what i understand. (i digress- needless to say im not very wise in the world of arms)
When browsing the net i see so much shit, so many different models, different options.
this is what i want.
a light ar 15 with a pistol grip, a decent magnified scope for day and night operation (zombie gun), and the ability to put a bayonet and a 37mm flare launcher (actually i doubt ill use flares, probably less than lethal stun rounds(bean bag) but that might be only applicable with the shotgun attachment.. id have to research
when i look at bushmaster, armalite, "other places" i see so many different guns with all of these nnumbers that i get, but dont quite understand how they will effect me.
Help. ill give more info if you need it just ask

I recommend the S&W M&P15

You really need more firepower for encounters with Zombies. I would recommend getting a 100 round C-Mag to appropriately execute such tasks.

AR-15s are awesome :) There's TONS of choices out there. I would read up on AR15.com for some education.

It is a very solid well put together gun. It is not like some of the cheaper models out there. It comes with a short barrel, collapsible stock and removable top sight rail for use of a scope or whatever. I put a Yankee Hill floating barrel kit on mine and a ACOG scope as well as a surefire light with pressure switch. Oh and a I put a fleshripper flash suppressor on form Yankee Hill also. I got about 2k in my gun, but it has never skipped a beat. It is the same quality if not better than the M4's we use at work just isn't 3rd burst capable.

A floating barrel means that the handguards are not directly connected to the barrel allowing for more accurate shooting as your hand on the guard won't have as much input

I LOVE my DPMS. Very accurate right out of the box. I know alot of people do this and that to the AR but I also know ALOT of people that have problems after modding them. I put different things on mine but have never changed any internals and I have NEVER had a problem. Just something to think about.

Not sure what your budget is, but check out the following AR builders:
Noveske Rifleworks
JP Rifles
Sabre Defence
Also, if you can't find what you want, then just build it. Super easy with tons of vids on Youtube.

That type of budget wil get you any run of the mill production AR and a few semi-custom builds too. However, IMHO, I think you should build your own AR. If you're at all intrested in building your own, then check out AR15.com and/or calguns.net

Is that just the gun, or gun and accesorise? That's a decent budget, and can make a lot of things work. I'll give you some ideas on what I'd do with that money and your criteria.
I'd assemble my own lower to save money ($100 for the lower transfered to your FFL, any popular manufacturer will do). Then $60 for the lower parts kit, $60-a couple hundred depending on what kind of stock you want. There are tons of insturctions online on how to build them and it's very easy, or you could buy one that's already built, it shouldn't be too much more.
As far as companies, there are quite a few good builders. Armalite, Colt, Bushmaster, DPMS, Spikes Tactical, StagArms, etc. Some will very in price a little more than others, but they are roughly all the same in quality, you can't really go wrong.
If you want something light, I'd mirror an M4 build (I prefer Armalite). 16" barrel, collapsiable stock. Do a free float rail so you can mount the flare launcher or other accesories. I'd then do a 3x to 4x ACOG, perfect for day and night shooting. Spikes Tactical makes a 37mm flare launcher, and you can get the shotgun adapter online to shoot 12ga rounds.
Before you do any buying of anything though, spend about a week reading about all your options, builders and accesories at AR15.com. The wealth of information of there will blow you away. Good luck.

papa I was just looking at catalogs last night for my next ar and bushmaster has a setup like you describe for about 2k ready to go. that said what size barrel are you looking at? i wouldnt get too elaborate of scope if you want the 16 in barrel. im selling my bushmaster 20 in varmiter if that length interests you.

I have talked to chad at length on this subject and his exact words would get go look at rock river, their stuff is accurate right out of the box. he also told me to make sure i got a 2 stage match trigger on whatever i ended up with.

If you really want to get your monies worth, I would consider building one exactly like you want. That is what I am doing for my next AR. If you buy an AR15 and then build one exactly like it, you will usually save $150-$200. For $2000-$2500 you can have a top of the line AR with a very nice piece of glass on it.
Here is a link http://www.ak47.net/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=306487.
There is plenty of info there.
Remember your going to need Ammo and Mags also.

thoughts? With a scope im looking at about 2500 and it does not come with a forward grip tho which i would really like to have and i would think id have to replace the hand guard unless i can get a forward grip just to attach to it.

Noveske? Wow, that's a big money rifle right there. The quality will be top notch. There's no doubt about that. If you want a vertical fore grip, they can be had for $10-65, and will attach directly to the handgaurds that are on that (it's a railed hand gaurd). A flare launcher will also attach directly onto it. You would also have enough cash to get a decent, lower end Leaupod or ACOG and still come in under budget.
If I were doing it (this is just my opinion), I would get a rifle from one of the bigger, cheaper manufacturers (as a first AR) for around $800-1000. I would put a rail, vertical grip, scope of choice and any other accesory you want, and you'll be sitting at about another $1000. I'd then take that last $500 for ammo, magazines, case, etc. Since this is your first AR, I'd assume you don't have any of those yet. That stuff will add up quickly, and spending $2k on the rifle will quickly put you over budget on the rest.
Again, that's just my advice for a first rifle. Noveske is a great gun, and you won't be disapointed in it, or in a bit cheaper rifle.

I would look at something like this:
New production CMMG 16.5 M4 Carbine. Features include mil-spec fire control group and take-down pins, standard M4 profile barrel, chrome lined 5.56mm chamber and bore, 1/7 twist, parkerizing under F marked forged front sight base, forged upper and lower receiver, M4 feed ramps, M4 handguard caps, over-sized M4 handguards and mil spec 5 position ribbed reinforced stock. All barrels are magnetic particle tested and all uppers have been factory head spaced and test fired. Included with weapon are cleaning kit, sling 2-30rd mags, manual and lifetime warranty.
SKU Number: F-1604 Price: $1075.95
Why spend $$$ when you don't have to? Sure it is always nice to tell people how much you spent, But if you can spend less and get just as much, why not?

(listed below is a lot of chit) Looks like i can just upgrade the handguard when i buy it and still save the $$. question is with all of these options how would i know which one to get? this is my problem with every site i visit. the thing about the other link i had was the fact that it was scope and accessory ready and from my research it would be a very high quality weapon. i would just pay a bit more. if this weapon is of good quality and i can slap a few upgrades right away im all about saving money and still getting good quality

No, he's expecting the extremely anti-gun, especially anti "assault weapon" Obama to ban them if he gets into office, much like Bill did.

gun owners and obama do NOT mix. Obama has stated repeatedly that he wants to renew the AWB. He also said back when he was a IL state senator that he wanted to completely ban handguns. I just can't fathom how a gun owner could possibly want to support Obama, as he has made direct and overt threats to our gun rights

I see him trying to go after our 2nd Amendment rights, if elected or if he stays in the Senate. Thanks to the Supreme Court it will be a little harder for anyone to do that now. Not that it won't happen it will just be more difficult.

The AWB ended years ago and there have been no problems with assault weapons or high capacity magazines. As we all know, another AWB would be a response to nothing...just anti-gun politicians creating an illusion that we will be safer without them.

Depends on what your looking for, but very few manufacturers are Mil Spec. I had a page that listed true mil spec manufactures and others that are close. Most of them you havent heard of as they do primarily Military contracts. Fabrique National for example. Bushmaster, rock river etc is not a Mil Spec weapon. However they are still an excellent AR-15's for general shooting. If your not in the military shooting at arabs, you probably don't need a mill spec weapon.
If you want to build your own which is SUPER easy, You can save some good cash. I built mine about 7 years ago and have never had a problem after 1000's of rounds.
www.jtdistributing.com is a good place to buy kits. Start looking around.
Couple tips on a kit.
Buy a chrome lined heavy barrel.
Get a 1x8 twist so you can fire heavier gr. ammo.
Don't buy a light barrel. Light barrels are gay unless you are doing insane amounts of offhand shooting, or need to save weight for some reason. Most users don't need to save weight at the rifle range.
Buy the "A3" upper. A2 uppers put the scope WAY too high over the barrell. An A3 lets you go back and forth between Flattop and A2 iron sites. I have an A2 and its annoying to scope.
Be aware of your states Pre ban / Post Ban laws. NY, MASS and others I believe retained the Assault Weapons Ban laws even after the sunst of the ban in 2004. So you can still get in trouble in NY for having a preban style wepon that was built after 1994.
Start reading the posts at www.AR15.com. you will learn insane amounts good information over there.
If you show up at the range with 37mm flare launcher underneath you will get seriously laughed at. Sure its a fun toy.... but kinda like a moped and fat chics....
Acept the fact that you will find more differing opinions about AR15's then you will about modding GTO's

Actually thats not fully true. Some states have retained it. I live in NY and it is still illegal to have a preban "style" weapon built after 1994. Its unlikely you would get arrested if you had one, however technically they could if they wanted to bust you for some reason.
