I'm looking for opinions on some good cheap A/S tires that will be good for traction control in rain, snow, dry climate. I live in the southern Chicago area, so we get all 4 seasons.

I plan on buying the BFG G-Sport SS A/S tires in the future, but i'd like to do it all at once with rims and all and I can't put out $2k anytime soon. So i'm looking to hold me off with my default wheels until then.

I have the 235/40ZR18's.

Goodyear F1 A/S

I just got a set of 245/40/18's on the factory wheels and they're great in the rain. We'll see how they do this winter.

I have Falken Azenis ST115 245/40/18, second cheapest Discount Tire had. They work great even in some snow, I could not even get out of my driveway with the stock Bridgestones. And they have Huge channels down the centre for plenty of water.

General UHP Exclaims are really good for the money! Don't know about snow though, don't really see but maybe a few times a year.

Wanna put a set on my stock 18's.
Not looking for performance just good wet/snow/cold traction.
They plow the streets very well in Chicago, so no need for dedicated snow tires.
Usually just slush/ice.
+100000000000000 on stock Pontenza's being crap in all conditions.

I had Azenis ST115 back on my Acura TL-S. They were good. Very quiet.

+1. That's where I got my Falkens. They actually used to have a warehouse right in my town. It was super easy to go there and pick up tires from them. Now they moved a few miles away.

I live in Chicago too. I would recommend winter tires from the time the snow starts till it stops. A/S for all the other time. That way you get EXCELLENT snow traction and your snow tires last for YEARS because you only have them on for 3 months or so.

why the hell wouldnt you buy summer tires if you had dedicated winter tires.

I had a set of Sumitomo HTR+ on one of my previous cars, and I was amazed how well they handled in the wet and snow.

As a matter of fact. I went out minutes after taking this pic and went all over town playing in the snow and never got stuck. I actually went out of town where the snow was so deep it was hitting the front fascia and flying over the top of my car, and I still never got stuck!

Yup - pick up a set of stock rims, slap snow tires on them and go! It's a totally different car in the winter that way - much safer. And the Dunlap Wintersport M3s I use don't hum like the old snows used to. In fact, other than giving up a LOT of dry traction they are very quiet and effective.

For the summer I have 18s with Cooper Zeon 2XS and love 'em to death (literally)...:burnout:

FWIW I have a set of stock 17s I could part with. I'm about 3 hours south of Chicago.

I love my Falken 912's. Better traction than the stock tires, better wear, and less noise too.

+11ty billion for more ideas.

The problem with just snow tires is Illinois is so random now with the weather. So it could snow 2ft. for one day and then be 90 degrees for the next week, haha. So I would need winter tires that can also withstand some dry conditions and not kill me.

I run the stock BF Goodrich all-season tires on the factory 17" rims in the winter and a set of 18" wheels with performance tires in the summer. Honestly they aren't bad. I think even average tires with deep new treads will trump better tires with low tread any time.

Those are a summer-only tire...for a good reason. Get stuck in snow in those and you'll be praying you make it home...I speak from experience.
