I've looked around but was unable to come up with a good thread on how to get chrome off these rims and figure out the best way to make them black.
Reason im doing this is because i have a PBM and i don't like the flashy chrome rims on my car and i think they would look a lot better in either flat black or a glossy black. They are my winter rims so I'm willing to experiment with these.
I'm tyring to do this all by myself. . What are the other alternatives that i can use to remove the chrome and paint them black the cheapest and best looking way possible?
Need some advice.

Sandblaster? Or you could get them powdercoated.

Can either of those be attempted by a semi-good painter? Where can I buy a sandblaster and how do you powdercoat rims yourself?

thanks for the help
Looks like powdercoating is out of my price range but we'll see. I was thinking of using high heat automotive spray paint once all the chrome is off. Think that would hold up through our rough winters here in illionis?

My winter wheels are spray painted graphite from the previous owner and touch up easily....but they are my winter wheels and I am not concerned with looks. If they were my all-year round wheels...I definitely would not use spray paint.

no expert on this but, chrome is multi step plating process. Fully removing everything to get it down to a good surface to power coat could be a bitch...
Try googl'ing it a little and I bet you'll have a decent answer. But I'm guessing way more work than its worth.

If he has them professionally done, I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal. DIY, might be a bit tougher.
