ok well hopefully it is not a real big deal since i am getting nittos tomorrow morn, but i still have to drive to work tonight and go to the tire shop tomorrow. well after i came home i was looking at my tires. i already knew that they were bald on the middle, :p , spinnin the tires, and that wasent a problem becaue they werent showing cords or anything but i looked and my rr has some patches of tire missing like its smooth then a little patch of tire is missing , so it goes down in the tread exposing the thinner layer below it, then it goes back up to the tread i have now, which isent great but i though was safe enough. i have probably about 3-4 or these little patches of missing tread, they are all small. the bigges is about a 1/2 inch. should i put my spare on ? but i thought that you werent supposed to put a spare on the rear. or drive slow and baby it and pray that it makes it throught tonight and tomorrow morn driving to the tire place. its still not, even in the patched parts, not showing cords, but the tread under what i have now is like "wavy" if anyone knows what i am talking about. thanks :hail:

I remember seeing a review on motorweek where they were running on a track and after a number of laps they had to stop because chucks were falling off the tire treads.

It sounds like your burnouts might have overheated the tire causing parts to lose adhesion.

I'd stay away from freeway speeds or not drive it at all. If this is the case it could seperate completely at anytime.

It's called "chunkouts" they are not dangerous unless the tread starts to peel. Drive slow and keep checking.

The same thing happened to my stock rear tires after 7000 miles or so.

yup, 6 inches is a peel. at that length, the exposed part can actually touch the road, although if it is only 1/2 inch wide maybe not. Inner rubber compounds are not meant for wear, and they rub thru quickly. Keep checking.
