I put 275/40's on the rear. They are the bfgoodrich K/D g-force.

I had the fenders rolled last week and they are still rubbing pretty bad.

Any suggestions?

Don't drag bags take away cornering though?

I don't want to have to raise my car up.

I have new Pedders 0 drop on the rear, my new 275's x17 rub, fenders are stock. Looking into grinding/cutting ~3/8's.

I was also thinking about grinding the lip off.

Maybe I missed it, but what wheels are you running?

The issue I'm finding with grinding, is keeping the metal cool during the grind to prevent the paint from possibly reacting to any excessive heat.
This seemed the only concern for body shop I spoke with today.
Oh, also clear coat to protect the exposed area.

I was also thinking about grinding the lip off.

275/40/17

They don't make the kd's anymore.

WHEELS.

Yeah, what wheels? If they are stock then that is your problem right there.

Because the stock 17's suck.

I have 275 on my stock 17 and I get minor rub on the left. That is with stock saging springs, didnt roll or cut fenders and no bags. Shows u how different these cars are from one to the next. Were was the quality control?

Pedders 5/16" Raise Springs? #2589

I just received my set in the mail a couple days ago in order to clear my slicks.

I'm currently running the stock 17s with stock springs with 275/40 Goodyear Eagle F1's with no problems.

Because of too much tire on to little wheel with a BS that is making the wheel rub the fender because of sidewall bulge.

MT 275 X 40 X 15 Drag Radials on stock wheels no issues,
We cut the lip back to about 1/4 inch left

i have the same tires on mine with drag bags and kind rear drag springs...it rubs only when i get on it HARD, but barely. need to roll my fenders and i'll be fine. i do, however, think i need a cradle alignment. can dealerships do cradle alignments?

i have Lovells drop springs and no rubbing with 285s. as Mr. Black said the wheels are the problem. i had my stock 17s widened to 9". when they're widened the material that's added makes the outside rim lip stay in the same place but moves the inner rim lip in the inch. that pulls the tire more towards the center of the car and no rubbing even if i bury the tires into the wheel wells on launch.

So should I widen my stock 17's or get springs?

I do not want to raise my back end.

It doesn't even looked raised, it just evens it up. Most GTO's start to sag after a while.

any spring that keeps the fender above the tire is going to be raised or be so stiff that the ride will suck. it's your call but don't think that springs will let you do it without being raised. getting your wheels widened is expensive. i did it back when it was "only" $175 a wheel. it's either raised, widened or different, wider wheels with the proper offset.

mine 3/4" drop:

Nittos suck though. My buddy has them on his head/cam foxbody and my street tires hook better then those nittos.

275 40 r17 " 555 Extreme Drag" heat the shit out of them and they'll stick and not rub at 485 rwhp..
NOT the road racing series..that's a different compound.

1.7 60 ft rolling into the pedal.

Maybe I will give them a try.

nittos won't rub.

nittos don't rub because they aren't as wide. you could just get a smaller BFG and be just as good except you couldn't then say you have "275s" out back. BFGs run wide. we calipered my Firestones (pretty much the same as Bridgestone) 285s against BFG 275s and they were almost exactly the same width. every brand is different. nittos are tiny in comparison. the answer comes back to do you want wider tires out back or a larger number molded on the sidewall. proper width and offset wheels are the answer.

Anybody have any suggestions as to what specs of wheels will work?

Any particular brands that are much lighter then stock?

You both made really good points. These cars are very inconsistent, car to car. Plus the alignement of the rear ends wasn't the greatest.

The 275 on the an 8 has never been the greatest idea.
1. Because it "crowns" the tire and you don't get to use the full contact patch anyway.
2. A 275 on an 8 will touch, where as a 275 on a 9.5 will not.

So which would be best a 9 or 9 1/2 inch?
