has anyone here bought or used M&H's new size dr?

i currently run a 275/35/18 BF drag radial on my stock 18s with drag bags and im always looking for traction since these guys still spin under WOT.

the tread pattern on the M&H looks comparable to MTs.

here is the M&H

looks like it will dead hook and plus more sidewall for a 18inch drag radial!!!!!!

i want to buy a pair just as soon as i run through mine. i guess they are so popular already they are sold out:turbonaug

That's going to be at least 1 inch taller then what you have now. You may want to try the new MT DR in 265/40-18. About 1/2 taller then what you have and my buddy says they hook very well!

im good on 265s, i should be ok since i have drag bags in mine so i can run like 15 psi in the bags and fit the 275 M&H in em. plus i hear nothing but good things from those tires.

plus i like trying something new:)

O.k. but the 27 inch tire will increase you 60ft and may slow your E.T. down just a bit.

well im looking at the daily driven aspect of these tires

hoosier would just suck as a DD dr especially in the rain

nittos is just a "good" street tire ( since i dont even consider them a dr )

my bfs do ok but still need to hook up better

MTs wear down too quick and arent that great in the rain

for the power i have i need a sticky enough drag radial that does ok as a DD tire.

I hope you have good insurance since those M&H will also suck in the rain. If they hook as good as M/T, chances are they will do poorly in the wet weather.

My advice; just buy another pair of rims.

anyone here think the 275/45/18 with 45 profile will affect the ABS at all?

i have too but right now im worried about the abs going wild due to the taller tire?

I've drove around on my 27/10.5 ET Street bias ply before with no abs issues, but the 275/45/18 is a 27.75" tall tire which may have issues. As for the track, you should have any problems, but for DD or street driving you might. JMO

my 275/60/15's MT dr's are 28" tall and cause the abs light to set from the tire speed difference , once the let sets the brakes are fine , but no abs which is fine with me

The M&H's hook great at the track and I have them on a long bed truck, so they should hook even better on something that has a little weight on the rearend. I have yet to drive in the rain with them, but they do handle good on the street.

We use them on our shop car 07Saleen an they work really well. Like most m&h they do need to have a big burn out to get them to hook well.

I ran the M/T 265/40/18 all racing season. They work good at the track. I did 60' 1.69 on two different occasions, on the street not so much. I have been considering going to the 275/40/17 M/T to try and get some more stick on the street, my converter just renders the car useless, unless it is a well prepped track.

Anyone have success with the 17" on the street?

I can't say anything for the MT 17's on the street except for don't drive them in the rain, but I cut a 1.59 60ft with the 17's at the track. I am probably going to get some used camaro rims and try out the 16's next season.

My very first drag radials were 17" BFGs and I didn't like them. I couldn't get them to hook worth a crap. My best luck has been with MTs

UGH BFG DR's, I had the same pieces of shit! Worst tire money I ever spent, my nitto's hooked way better and lasted 5 times as long.

I have 275-50-17 M/H DR's waiting for the spring!!!

My 275-40-17 MT ET DR's were awesome until the rain. I 60 footed 1.6x's with an M6 car.

Diameter.......: 26.00...................26.50..................... .28.00
Circumference: 82.00...................83.00..................... .88.00
Rim Size........: 9-11.....................8.50-11....................9.0
Weight..........: 28 lbs...................23 lbs.....................23 lbs

Are you going to use the stock 17x8 rim for the M&H?
Have you put them on your Goat yet?
If so, any fitness issues?
What is the M&H tire weight?
Are you going with the M&H (28") due to gear ratio (3.91)?
Are you running skinnies up front, and if so, what rim and tire?

Reason for asking..... have 2 sets of MT (275x40 DR & 26x11.50 Bias-Ply Ht 26.5"). I use M&H Bias-Ply Front Runners (4.5x26.0) on the 17x4 spare rim with either MT and have not had a problem. Currently using the MT 26x11.50..... but considering going to a 28" with the 3.91 gear.

Considered going to 15" rims with 28" Ht tire, but would consider the M&H 28" to save the cost of switching everything over to 15" set-up.

They are going on stock 17's because I have them and I am cheap.

I haven't even mounted them on the rims yet to see if they will fit, but I have drag bags and am confident they will clear. I don't think it is how tall but more of how wide or lack of width in this case. When these cars squat, the top of the tire moves in quite a bit. These being only 9" wide on the stock rim should give them plenty of room (I hope).

My car was supercharged, M6 with 3.91's and I was having to hold 3rd gear going thru the traps or try to grab 4th real quick. It is now an A4 with 3.46's and is getting turbo'd. It should help build and maintain boost with the taller tire.

I have the same M/H front runners mounted on stock spares also!!! My rims were smoothed and powder coated dark metallic grey. I also haven't had any issues running them with MT ET Street Radials out back.

Edit: I don't know the tire weight, I'll check tonight.

see i have them as a DD tire 275x35x18 they grip pretty good. they have lasted me about 8-9 months all they way down to the thread. wet handling they do ok, thats why i use them because of the small ripples they have.

but its still a drag radial and like most drag radials, they arent the best wet tires.

plus i havent gotten a chance to use these at the strip to gauge their true performance.

Wet handling?

Had these on for a short time. Wet Handling you say? You don't want to try these in the wet. They weren't exactly made for water shedding...

on a scale 1-10 at average speeds they are about 5-6

they do ok but i dont believe any drag radial is excellent in the rain due to the soft rubber compound and very low tread.

Question...

Will the MT ET street 265/40-18 work for me??

I have been running the 18x9.5 Beyern 5 w/ a 285/35 Nitto 555R drag radial w/ no problems (fenders ROLLED). Just want to know if the MT will work fine as well being a 265/40. Thanks

well i spoke to John at M&H and he told me the 26'' inch drag radial will be coming out next year as the 28'' tire sizes are done with R & D is almost done with the 26'' sizes.

i want those M&H drags already :/

I loved my Nitto 555R DR's on the stock 17's. I hooked up great on the street and track. I don't know why everyone flames them for sucking in wet conditions because i never had any issues with them in the rain. I just replaced them with the Yokohama S drives 275/40/17 and i get sideways 1-3rd gear at WOT and in wet driving they are horrible. Just my 2 cents...Sorry to thread jack

those M&H Radials will not last on the street as a DD tire. Race Proven Motorsports used the M&H on thier 8 sec Z06 and they chewed a pair up damn quick this year alone. as soft as they are, they wont get you near the life of the bfg's.

BIG GTOOOO
04-15-2009, 08:40 PM
yeah but how many times did they track the car? BFGs dont hook up too good on the strip. if i can use the M&H's for dead hook then i will have no need to swap to my MT ET streets for the strip

Nomorefbodys

Nittos are the best in the rain/DD , Mts are the best hook track/street, the BFG's are a waste those are the 3 I have used .

i would take BFG (the new tread cuz the old one sucks) over nittos anyday

the only thing that i dont like is the M&H dr's run narrow, i think they need to correct that issue.
