I pull the polished CCWs during the winter to protect them from the elements. I painted the stock 17s first with all intentions of running those for at least this winter, but I've always wanted to get away from the 17s, so at some point they'd have to go...might as well jump on a good deal when you run across one. ;)

First the painted stockers:

And now the wheels I just scored for $240. Privat Gassens, 18x8, ET40, cast wheel with a forged grey finish and mirror machined lips, and 23 lbs a piece. Just need to get some tires now (if anybody knows of any cheap all season 235/40/18s or 245/40/18s tires let me know).

Yes sir. Looks like I might pick up some Pontiac G6 polished centercaps as they're supposed to fit, that way they look more OEM. I like the Privat cap though, so I may just leave them alone. Also considered painting the centers black instead of the grey, but for now I'm just going to leave them alone and might do that down the road.

Thought about picking up the Privat Netz or Privat Reserv wheels, but ended up playing it safe and looking hard at the Gassens. I think the Reserv could look killer on the GTO and I know the Netz would.

For those wondering where I got them from, ebay. Typo. They normally got for $204-240 for each wheel, but I guess the seller slipped and put a set for that price instead of just one wheel. I just happened to catch it and pay before they caught it and pulled the auction. I looked at it about ten times to make sure it said one set for that buy it now price, and sure enough it did, so I took my chances and paid up. A few days later the full set of four showed up. :)

yup just got mine in today. I'm glad you like them josh. These shipped from plainview, NY. I snooped around a bit and found out that is where konig's addresses were. Privat is konig's luxury wheel brand. My guess is that since these are discontinued, they decided to throw a few sete on ebay to get rid of them. I'm hoping to have them on the car saturday

Good to know. I didn't know they were discontinued. Everywhere else is still trying to sell them for $200+ per wheel. Thanks again for the heads up man. I can't thank you enough actually. If you're ever in the Nashville area let me know and I'd be glad to do a photoshoot on your car for you. Since they're discontinued I'm definitely going to get tires with wheel protection to avoid curbing them or anything. www.privatwheels.com shows them to be Konig's "elite" or luxury line, they just happen to have a few sporty looking wheels in the mix. I knew of Privat wheels because a lot of F-Body guys were lusting after the Privat Profil wheels but few got their hands on a set, and they came with a hefty price tag, so they're far from junk. I actually heard they were a cheaper division of Fikse, which sounded very improbable to me, but Konig's higher end line does sound right. These wheels are really a deal even at $1000/set, but for $240/set it's highway robbery!

The wheels are looking good and solid shots Josh.

If you're open to some C&C, since you've basically got solid shots nailed down, I'd like to throw out some ideas for really helping you improve.

1) First, number your shots so it's easier to reference them.

2) You don't need to post so many shots. Being more selective about what you post will make you pick the cream of the crop. You've got 10 shots posted that are all near the same angle on the front side of the wheel, when only one off those is actually really special (the last one). The wheels are looking very sexy, but you can get the idea from fewer shots just as much as more shots, and the overall set will have more visual impact. I would have posted 2, 5, and 10. Those are the standout shots from the set IMO.

3) If you're wanting to post more than just a few exterior shots, do some more detailed and/or abstact shots. Close up of the Center cap emblem, straight on front or straight on rear shots, straight on side profile shot, get much higher like you did in the last shot or much lower to bring a more interesting perspective to the shots.

4) Watch for things that look out of place in your shots. In the last shot, which is a VERY good shot IMO and one of my favorites, there is a a carpet right bottom corner that is distracting. Check the review, see things like that, get them out of the way, then reshoot the same shot.

Overall definitely some nice wheels. Just work on more variety in your shooting and more selectivity in your posting. It'll come through a lot better, more impactful and it'll make more of a statement, on the viewing end.

LOL . . . Bored at work :)

PS: Nice wheels . . . No winter snow here so id get in trouble for wasting money on "winter wheels" haha!

Does it really get snow/cold in Nashville?

josh99ta
11-13-2008, 06:10 PM
LOL @ BlackPlauge, touche sir! Haha.

Nick, it does to me man. I can't stand the cold though. We usually get one or two decent snow/sleet/slush storms a winter. Temps usually get down into the single digits for lows and 20s for the highs for a few weeks. So not terribly cold or bad, but it's all I care for. LOL They salt the roads ever time there is even a chance of snow though and road salt + raw aluminum wheels like my CCWs are NOT a pretty combination. I'd rather drop some fundage into a set of winter wheels with winter tires to both spare my CCWs as well as something that will give me a little better chance of getting around than my summer only 275s on the CCWs.

HAHA !!! True that, unless of course you want to get new CCW's every 3 years due to some nice salt erosion :)

As far as tires are concerned, take a look at the Dunlop M3 Wintersports. I had them on my GTO with stock 17's for a winter and they were awesome, not only in foul weather but a good tire on dry pavement.

Looks good man. I'm anxious to get mine on. Still hunting for the tires I want/need though and trying to sell my 17s. Why do you think you need hub rings? Any vibration or anything?

qwikslvr
11-17-2008, 07:42 AM
Yeah I get a little vibration around 73. I ordered a set of polycarbonate rings off of ebay. I.D. 69.5mm O.D. 72.62mm. $10 shipped. hopefully these will fit correctly. I forgot to measure the bore size on the wheel before I put them on. Since they're plastic I can sand them down if they're a little too big.

11-17-2008, 09:49 PM
Those look amazing! I bet these become relatively popular now... for a non staggered setup.

josh99ta
11-18-2008, 09:22 PM
Yeah, the non-staggered is the only thing I don't like about them. I just prefer a deeper dish and a wider tire in the rear, but that's completely counterproductive to what I need out of them for winter wheels and skinnier tires, so I'm OK with it.

Still tire hunting. Really trying to sell these stock 17s and tires before I drop money for tires for these, but I don't know if I'll be able to hold out until the 17s sell. I really want to get these on the car.

Hey Josh, I might be able to help you out with some factory size tires 235/40/18 Potenzas that I had taken off my stock 18's. Two are great that were on the front, one is fair the other I trashed ( right rear). Of course they are more of a summer tire but hey, we are in Tennessee. I had bought some different size Potenzas to put on the factory 18s.

Those $240 wheels look better than 99/100 aftermarket wheels I've seen posted on this site.

lmfao

josh99ta
11-21-2008, 11:27 AM
Raymond has me hooked up on some front tires for a good price, just gotta pick up two rear tires and I'll get everything mounted and on the car. I'd expect to have them on by the second weekend of December and I'll have some pictures up.

Nick, thanks man. I gotta keep my stuff looking clean and nice. It drives me crazy if it isn't. Even though I got them cheap they're really nice wheels that normally sell for $1,000 and look every bit as good as anything else short of CCWs for these cars IMO. Thought about some CSL reps too but they don't really fit the styling I have going. I think these will look better, plus they were significantly cheaper to boot. It's a win-win.

I've been looking at these for awhile on ebay..... but never for that kind of deal!!! I've always seen them listed singly in 18x8 and 19x9.5 sizes (w/ a ET of 40) for $205-250 each.

blackgote20
12-12-2008, 01:13 PM
^^^same. Except the seller on ebay advertises them as "staggered" and I dont think they are. Would I be able to buy those rims with a 19x8 and a 19x9.5 with a ET of 40 and run the same size tire all the way around? Mine's a DD so I need to be able to rotate the tires.
