I have been looking for a decent range pistol. Something that I can take to the range and just shoot.

I had been looking at the .22 Sig Mosquito but $350 for a .22 semi-auto was just too much.

Anyway, I came across an old Sig Sauer P220 chambered in 9x19 for sale at my local store. It was on sale for $369. It was clean and didn't appear to be abused. I said what the hell and picked it up.

I've been reading up on it and it appears to be somewhat of a odd gun. Called the swiss-army pistol as it was used in the swiss army in the late 1970's and was later imported to America as a P220 in .45 and 9mm.

It is obviously similar to the police trade in P6's that have been floating around for cheap. In fact, it could very well have been a swiss police trade-in gun.

Anyway, nothing special. Just thought it was neat and decided to pick it up for a shooting pistol.

In 1976 Schwetzerische Industriale Gesselcraft (SIG) introduced what would become the P220. It was manufactured by Sauer.
It was the first model of the classic "P" series Sigs. It was originally chambered in 9mm and then later in .45acp and .38 Super.

In 1977, Browning contracted with Sig Sauer to produce the gun. It became known as the Browning Double Action or BDA. Browning produced these guns until 1980, when Sig decided to import them into the US on their own.

SIGARMS was established in the early 1980's, first in Tyson's Corner, Virginia and then a few years later in Herndon, Virginia. They moved their operations to Exeter, New Hampshire in 1990.

Roadmaster, Nice find, looks like you got a winner

Midnight, is tha your BDA? That is cool I didn't know that Browning was the original importer. Just shows you can learn something new everyday.
