Anyone recommend a relatively low-priced bolt-action or semi-automatic rifle? This is just for casual range practice shooting. I narrowed it down to a couple companies; Ruger, Mossberg, SKS, or Winchester. I decided that jumping straight into AR territory was asking for to much at to much of a high price lol. I'm a beginner, and I'm just looking for a beginners rifle. So can someone recommend me a beginners rifle with changeable parts such as stocks and other accessories.

Ruger 10/22 or an SKS. Relatively inexpensive entry price, both fun to shoot, big aftermarket, & I don't think you'd be disappointed in either one.

What caliber?

If you are going .22 I would get the CZ 452

For the caliber, I was thinking .22's so I can just practice for cheap lol. Is it possible to mount accessories to the forend and the top like other rifles? Or is that going to be something custom / not recommended?

I don't know if that question was directed toward me, but if it was I'm not sure what your asking. 22's are great for plinking but for me they get old fast. I have loved this SKS to plink with and shoot cyotes. It's so much more fun for me to shoot than my 2 22's bc it actually has alot of power and very little recoil. AND it is not very expensive to shoot, yes more than a .22 but you get 10x the ammount of power

I think I narrowed it down to the Ruger or SKS. As far as the SKS, do they even manufacture those anymore? I was reading they stopped during the 1960's. Have they resumed it for civilian / collector use? or is what for sale just whatever remains from 48 years ago?

they are all from the 60's or earlier. If you buy them "new" they are not new almost all of them have been fired and then packed in grease and stored. That is how I bought this one when it was packed in grease. It has not once misfired or jammed. The only reason I am selling it is B/C I need some cash to finish off my AR build

You have so many different options out there. An ar was my first gun and granted it was expensive it was def worth it. .22 speaking I would recommend a gsg5. A ruger 10/22 will get boring very quickly. Barely any feedback and only good out to about 50 yards in stock config. The gsg5 at least has some character and would be a fun plinker. The sks is also a very nice choice, my friend chose one as his first gun and loves it. Figure your gonna spend 300-400 on an sks you can prob snag an awesome deal on an ar for about 550-600. Henry golden boy in .22 is also another good option as the lever action will keep things from getting boring. You really need to narrow what your looking for down, ie: training for accurate shooting, just plinking, combat shooting, etc.

Its def harder to find the deals post obama win but they are still out there. If you skim the ar-15.com equipment exchange the deals are all there. I know guns shops always are more expensive but OMG an sks for 600 dollars?!?! I guess I under estimated this gun buying panic were experiencing.

You can do tons of stuff to a 10/22 you just have to have the money to do it
