A friend came over today try out his new gun. I've lived here for 22 years & have always shot in the backyard on an occasional basis. I live in the edge of a rural neighborhood (at the edge of the county in fact), waay outside of the city limits, & shoot in a safe direction into a good backdrop. Quite a few other neighbors have backyard "ranges" also.
Well, as we were wrapping up the festivities, a cop pulled into the yard. Not surprising or unexpected. What was a surprise, however, is the relatively new county ordinance: no shooting in residential areas.
Dang, that shuts my range down! I'm bummed.
BTW, no cuffs or jailtime or anything. the cops (all three that ultimately showed up) were polite & friendly, & were somewhat apologetic about having to enforce this ordinance. We ended up talking guns for a while, like most gun nuts end up doing.
