so my car failed inspection because 2 tires were beginning to show steel. I contemplated just buying OEM but tirerack has them for 242 a tire so forget that. I was originally only looking for a set around 600 total but then I saw several good ones at the 700 and 800 range and I feel the little bit extra would probably be worth it in the long run. my question is what to get. I had BGF KDWS's on my firebird and loved them even though they were all season, so I was looking at the KDW2's for 700. But after looking around tirerack for 30 mins that I have no idea what would be the best bang for the buck. so with a 700-800 limit what is a really good summer tire?

Lots of options with that budget. If you are looking at a decent All Season, I have never had any issues and have never heard of any complaints when using the Continental ContiExtremeContacts. One helluva tire!
If your price includes mounting and balancing, then those are the way I would go. A set of Toyo's, maybe the Goodyear Eagles.... The Bridgestone re760's aren't bad form what I hear.

The Potenza RE760 Sport are the tires I'd say to get.

If the coin was there, I'd really go with the RE-01R's.

just 2 atm, but when I bought the car the alignment was out of wack and the inside of all 4 were worn more than the rest of the tire. so the other 2 could be days from showing stee.l

+1 on those. Had them on my SVTf and they rocked. I have the Potenza All Seasons on my goat all arround and they drive great, no road noice, 40k miles if you don't beat on them, good dry, excellent wet, and even with bad rears could get arround in the snow to an extent. Mounting my new rears this weekend so I should be god to roll. Potenzas mounted/balanced with road hazard are less then $200 a wheel.

I just bought the New GoodYear Eagle GTs. They seem to handle pretty damn good and i can actually stomp it in 2nd and 3rd now without much spin at all. There pretty good price wise too. I think i payed $134 each for 235/40 18s and $165 for 255/40 18s

Id try and look at some tire reviews on tire rack and other places 1010 tires?Just pay attention to the car they went on and for 800 you could have some pretty good options as well. Im looking at getting new tires when winter is over here in ohio as well buddy has the generals in 245 front and 275 rear they hook up well but relatively soft sidewall that can be helped with lil more tire pressure

Get a set of 4 Nexen N3000's. Awesome tire for the money, can't beat it. Plenty of good reviews about them on this site...plus alot of the Bimmer crowd runs them also.

I like my Nexen N3000s. Did you check to see if you have the dreaded strut-rub condition?
