What is the biggest size tire you can run on a 20x8.5 wheel without rubbing and getting your fenders rolled?? Thanks!

245/45/17 = 25.7"
245/30/20 = 25.8"

On a 8.5" width the 245 is perfect. The next correct size up would be a 285/275 but you should have a 9.5" width.

For that you would need a 275/25/20 and I don't even know if they makes those.

U guys don't think 255 30 20 would fit? Might help tire life and traction a little bit. Shouldn't hurt the speedo much...i'm thinking they might not even rub

Using the 20x8.5, the 245-30-20 is most ideal. If you had a wider wheel you could run a 275-25-20. Assuming you have the correct wheels, you can run a 285-25-20, which Vredestein makes.

But even assuming you had the correct wheels, you would most likely need to do some rolling of the fender lip. 255-30-20 can be done. The tires do exist, but it is a little tall, and will most likely rub on the splash gaurd up front when you turn lock to lock.

I'm a little confused here. I'm thinking 20x8.5 with 245 30 20 is almost the exact same dimensions as stock wheels and tires at the top (as far as rubbing is concerned). The tire, at 245mm is wider than the 8.5" wheel so width should be about the same at the top. Also, the 245 30 20 has the same overall diameter as the tire as the stock 17's.

So, assuming offset is correct, where is the risk?

No risk with the 245/30/20. Risk increases with 255/30/20.

Also just a reminder those GTO's with stock 18" rims had issues going from 235 to 245 in regards to strut rub which we now have ways to address.

OK cool, I see what you mean now. I think the 245 30's will be fine. No use in risking on the first set of tires. I just dont want him to have rubbing issues or have to roll the fenders! Hopefully no spacers either, but a 5mm may be in order.

Considering the fact this is about 20"s on a GTO, this thread has been surprisingly civil and full of good info. Must be b/c it's Friday or something.

Ha! Indeed. People on these forums are NOT fans of 20's I see. Guess the Mercedes crew in California just has a little different taste ;)

Regardless, I can't wait to see it!
