View Full Version : Some rims I've never seen on a GTO.

I have been struck by the CSL bug. While looking around and searching for the different deals and vendors, I came across 5 rims that I liked and I havent noticed on here before.

They are all variations of the CSL (concave mesh) wheel.
Primarily used on BMW, Porsche, etc....

VM V710 is the one that looks the easiest to mount on a GTO and has good looks.http://www.velocitymotoring.com/forumimages/ V710-rear.jpg

Neez 7Model looks killer but you would have to buy 4 front rims as the back wheel is 11" wide.http://carview-img02.bmcdn.jp/carlife/images/usercar/205333/p1.jp g

MorrAlloy's VS7 and VS8s look great but the company that makes them seems to be suspect.http://www.e90post.com/forums/attachment.p hp?attachmentid=102752&stc=1&d=1191106557
http://morralloys.com/assets/images/car_photos/012/ 011.jpg

RAC Monolite RG4 are in the same catagory. Appear to be only group buys on the bimmer websites.
http://www.racmonolites.com/cars/2.jpg

Since our wheel selection seems to be set off of BMW, I just searched for wheel that fit that pattern and had a reasonable offset.

Dont get me wrong, I like the 5 spoke.
But everybody on here has some variation of it and they not all good looking.

So people post pics of something different that u have seen on the road or internet and would like to see on a GTO.

The VM V710 looks like a nice wheel. It isn't to euro/tuner and mimicks having a dished appearance due to the spoke design. I would like to see it on a GTO, Where did you get pricing and specs for this wheel?

I found them. You have to call for pricing. From what I've found they're about $1,800 for wheels and tires.

Guys, remember that the 710 at the top of the page probably has that nice concave face because of the low offset. It wouldn't look like that with the offset needed for the GTO.

stillgreedy
02-10-2009, 01:07 PM
True the face may be different with the high offset we have. I like the VS8 and the neez better. They have more of a complete concave face. The v710 looks more like csl( straight spokes with concave lugnut area)

This is a bmw3 coupe with V710s

19x 8.5 front 35 offset
19x9.5 back 45 offset
thats pretty close to the GTO can handle so i figure the rear wheel would look exactly the same.
And the front wheel shouldn't be too far off.

You should try the V708 rs4 replica wheel. You could go 18x8.5 +38mm front and 19x8.5 +48mm rear for a cool staggered setup. I think it would look good.

Great looking wheel.:-pimp:

The VM V710 wheels on the M3 in the first pics of this thread still have a dish to them. Granted, I am not sure of the offset but it couldn't be too much more than the 45 stock BMW 3 series. The M5's use the 25/35MM offsets. The GTO would look like a skateboard riding with those things on there! :) A 45mm would definatly set it off.

I like the CSL hyperblack on a spice red GTO. Those would look even better!

I've been down this road as well and didn't bite.
The Neez are too expensive, especially since they don't fit well on the GTO. I like the CSLs reps by Velocity Motoring and their fronts fit better than the V710s, 19x8.5 +40
I've been in touch with Velocity Motoring about the V710s. The faces on the fronts and rears are different, the 9.5s are more concave. They say the 19x8.5 +35 and 19x9.5 +45 fit with rolling the rear quarters, and they will, as this size and fitment is the same as the Ruffs. The fronts will be close without mods, especially if you have a drop. I also tried to get them to make me a custom rear offset of +50 and after getting my hopes up, they finally said they couldn't do it...
They come in silver, black and gunmetal
18s will be available within a year

Bottom line, besides the fitment issues, I love the V710s and do want to see them on a GTO... but it won't be mine unfortunately. BTW these are HRE P40 reps

I am a fan of the big rim. 19s are a great fit for the cars but a GTO on here has the Foose speeders in 20". And they look absolutely fantastic........ I imagine a slightly larger wheel than the CSL pics on here would be just as beautiful as the foose

stillgreedy
02-12-2009, 01:57 PM
Also I have found that while there are plenty of vendors selling CSL replicas in 19", only the more expensive wheel makers sell 20". Id also want my 20"s to be higher quality due to the lower profile tire. Not that I want junk in a 19" lol.....

Unfortunately I can’t do the Monoblok on the GTO and get to the right offset.

I would have to run a 3 piece wheel. You may want to look at our 890R series. They have hidden hardware and I can build it with a very small lip.

Well the p40 is officially a no go...... I responded back to HRE...

I see.... Is it an safety issue or more the actual design of the wheel prevents compatability with a +48 offset...
I looked up more info concerning the GTO and I know the front wheel would probably need to closer to the strut to keep the wheel aligned with stock position.
That would lead to a offset of about +35 to 40 maybe less.
The rear is the opposite, needing to be +48 or greater to keep stock position. This is counting the wider tire. What i am thinking is that i could just get 4 front wheels at 8 or 8.5" wide and set the offset to +40 on front and +48 in the rear.....

And this was his reply..

No we just can’t get to the offsets needed to fit the car properly. The one piece wheels do not have the flexibility that the three piece offer. In three piece we have three different thickness forgings that we can start with plus the half inch increments of the rim halves.

On the One piece we have the diameter and width already set and the backpad allows for a certain range of offsets. Unfortunately the GTO fronts don’t fit into that range.

Well i tried. Waiting on more emails to return.

Here is a new line of wheels coming out from Vorsteiner. So it would fit our bolt pattern( not sure about offsets) They have a five spoke with concavity. And a CSL style wheel( more like the Neez 7 model)

And they are low pressure cast as opposed to forged.
They appear to also have forged versions in the works as well.
The pricing looks to be 1300-1400 for a set of 19s. 20s should be no more than 16-1800 i figure.
26 pounds for 19s
27 for 20s

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c282/mildjimshal es/14spokefrontgun.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c282/mildjimshal es/detailshotgunmetal.jpg

Introducing the worlds 1st 1 piece lightweight flow formed wheel lineup.

Flow Forming is a production procedure that turns the wheel (or rim section) over a special mandrel and three hydraulic rollers using tremendous pressure. The pressure and turning then force the rim area to form against the mandrel, creating the shape and width of the rim. During Flow Forming, the rim actually "flows" down to create the full rim width. During Flow Forming, pressure applied to the cast rim actually changes its mechanical properties, so its strength and impact values become similar to those of a forged rim. That translates to up to 15% less weight when compared to a standard cast wheel.

Wheel: Forgestar F-14
February 2009 release date
1 piece flow formed wheels
flow formed wheels are hybrid between casting and forging
Lightweight approx 24-26 lbs
First full custom flow formed wheel in the world
Clears big brake kit

I'm going to take them to get painted tomorrow. They are 19x9.5 rear and 19x8.5 front 45mm offset all around. I ordered mine through JLevisSW, but it was a hassle. Call VMR directly and ask to speak to Gideon. He knows everything they have that will fit a GTO. As soon as I get these wheels back from being painted and throw some rubber on them, I'll post up some pics.

I
I've been in touch with Velocity Motoring about the V710s.

How close is "close" on the fronts? And what mods would help?

I just picked up a Goat ('04 M6 TR) this evening (yes, I've been a lurker for years) and would pull the trigger on these 710s right now if I knew I could get them to fit.

Is the 8.5" with +45 on the fronts too much? Cause strut rub? I wouldn't think the +35 would be terrible, I could've swore I've seen lots people running on +35 fronts here.

^^
First off, congrats on your purchase. Like I said before, these wheels have the same basic sizing as all the Ruff wheels you see on here. Though commonly seen, they are all BMW fitments (search for guys fitting Ruffs to see what they did). If you were to mount an 8.5" +35 rim on your car, the wheel will stick out a bit, so depending on your tire size and if you had a drop, the tire may make contact with the front fender lip (which can't exactly be rolled). Plus, I.M.O it doesn't look that great. There's the option to have them shaved 3mm to a +38, which would fit better but make it more difficult to fit hub rings (which these should have). The +45 on an 8.5" wheel will most likely cause strut rub, but either way they don't actually offer the 8.5" V710 in +45.
Bottom line is yes this setup will bolt on to the car, but to make them fit without contact you either have to mod the car or mod the wheels.

Sigma
04-08-2009, 08:08 AM
Hm, ModBargains doesn't show the +45 offset on the fronts for purchase, but Velocity shows a +45 being available on the 8.5" on their site.

But I guess if strut rub is going to be a problem that's out anyway.

Not to sound like a total newb, but what sort of mods are you talking about for the fronts that would make it easier to use a +35 on the front? Just camber?

Or what about, if the +45s are available in 8.5" as their site says it is, using spacers to get it out to +40 or so?

I've personally asked V.M more than once if the V710 is available in 8.5" with +45. It is a misprint on their website, the answer is no.

Shaving the wheel, camber adjustments, or modding the fender.
Some guys have fit the +35 without issues, so check around.

It appears that the V708, while one of the very few wheels available in a +48 offset, is only available in that particular offset in a 5x112 bolt pattern. The only 5x120 bolt pattern offset is +38, all the others are reserved for the Audis in 5x112.

You could probably get by with a +38 all around, but the 275s in the rear wouldn't be very do-able.

Yes, I've gone through this with VMR for the V710s. I told them I'd pay the extra cost for a one-off set of staggered wheels to fit the car properly. After getting my hopes up, they told me after speaking with an engineer, it wasn't possible due to the design of the wheel. HRE also told me similar about the P40s.

DPE is releasing the monoblock version of all of their wheel lines. Only one out now is the ST-7. Not as concave as the P40s but its still a nice looking wheel. Perhaps with the concavity not an issue, they may be able to make them in an offset and width to accomodate the front unlike HRE and VMR.

Thank you for the interest. In regards to fitting your GTO with our Monobloc wheels, the size spread for the wheels in 20” is 8.5”, 9.0” and 10.5”. I feel the 10.5” rear may be a bit ambitious. In order to fit 10.5” under the rear arches, your vehicle will require fender modification. Your cost on the set delivered to your door if you do choose that route is $4,950.00 and will take 4-5 weeks for machining production. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to proceed with the order.

Mesh spokes are where it's at for our cars - period.

Has anyone been able to find a mesh/CSL-style wheel with a good polished or chrome lip? That would be the height of classy sexiness. :)

I like both the black and the gold but it seems like you would need something else on the car to be gold colored for it to really work.

Not necessarily - in fact I would avoid doing ANYthing else gold on the car, lest you end up looking like an '84 Caddy Deville.

I ordered a set of Matte Black V710's, 19", staggered with the 35 front and 45 rear offset about 4 weeks ago. They were back ordered and do not arrive at the vendor "non -sponsor" I ordered them from until next week. It may take a few attempts to get them to fit right, but I am willing to take my time and get it right.

I may have the front mounting surface shaved to a 38mm just for some help. Who knows. Once I get them test fitted, I will have an idea as to what I need to do. The rear fenders are going to be ground down regardless.

Props to you for stepping up and taking the "hands on" approach...I absolutely will grab these wheels in 18 or 19.

I'm running 19x8.5 (+35) FRONT and 19x9.5 (+45) REAR. Yes, they rubbed stock slightly and with some extra weight in the car. After I rolled the rears, it improved.

I was told VMR doesn't make a +45. Have you received word from VMR about your order? Estimated delivery?

I was contemplating going +35 all around (18x8.5 or 19x8.5) and trying to have them "shaved" to improve, but I don't see how +38 would work in the rear. Good Luck. I'll keep checking with you on these wheels. I like your taste. :-pimp:

It was really the only set of wheels I could imagine having on my car, other then CSL's, and I wanted to try something new. I bought my wheels from a VMR distributor, because VMR did not sell these wheels in Matte Black. VMR told me where to buy them from when I requested Matte Black. They can be found via Google very easily.

I am being told the wheels will arrive in there facility next week. This is a 19x8.5 with a 35mm front offset and a 19x9.5 in a 45mm offset, 5x120 pattern, Matte Black finish. They are the same fitment as the stock ruff staggered wheels.

I plan to run 235/35/19 up front at 1st, to help with the low offset. In the back, I plan to run a 265/30/19, with cut fender lips and drag bags. When I get it all worked out and fitted correctly, I will most likely go with a 1/2" drop front and back, depending on the wheel fitment.

Wow... those look terrible alone, but actually decent on the car.

I wonder if they would look better with chrome lug nuts and a center cap.

I had to give them back to the guy who had given them to me to try. They are 245/45/18 with 38mm offset and with my stock springs they were rubbing the rear fenders on turns. Maybe when I get better springs, I will see if he still has them for me to try again.

I didn't really like them before I put them on. But I was kind of regretting to give them back.

Alright, here are some pre-cleaning pics. I fought with the front brakes for so long this afternoon that I did not get a chance to clean or grind the rear fenders. So, for now, I have put 20 PSI in the drag bags to avoid rubbing. It seems to work. I am going to paint the rear rotor hats and clean the rear calipers tomorrow, while grinding on the fender lips. The wheels are super nice, but really close to the face of the fenders, both front and rear.

Sorry for the shitty point and shoot camera, I will do the car justice with the Nikon tomorrow, after everything is complete.

Ride height looks raised... and did you get the right front offsets? I knew 8.5 ET35s stuck out a bit but I didn't think it was THAT much!

yeah why is the front end so high?

christoffa

Its all stock suspension, less the drag bags. The front has a 35 offset with 235/35/19 tires. I will get some better pics of the fronts, it actually looks really good. I think the pics above give the impression the wheel is outside of the fender. It is just a butt hair inside of the outer face of the front fender. It looks no different then any other 35 offset wheel on a GTO.

Anywho, I am back at it tomorrow. I will clean it up and take some better pics, so you all can get a better idea of how these wheels fit this car.

i love the rims. But after going and looking at my tsw's on the car i noticed that they look the exact same ( look like they stick out a little bit) so its prob a pretty close offset

but i dont understand why u didnt get a wider rim in the rear? Is that whats everyone has been saying about these rims..... the wider ones will not fit in the rear?

Cuz i have rolled rear fenders, 5/16in srping raise, and a 10mm pedders spacers, and will prob get rid of the tsw thruxtons for these rims if u can fit a wider wheel in the back

I got a 275/30/19 on the rear. I don't think I want to run anything wider on the back. I think all it needs now is a 3/4" drop out front and a 1/2" drop out back. That would set it off that much more.

They just really look out of place on your car.

A for effort though.

I am getting some quotes from some local machine shops I have worked with in the past on getting the fronts shaved about 2-3mm. If I can get them shaved a minimum of 2 mm and get a degree or two of negative camber, it will look even better then it does now. I figured this would be a trial and error kind of deal and that is what it is.

My next plan is to then run the monroe GT and king spring combo with a 3/4 or 1/2 drop all around.

I need to see some freshly detailed photos. I like em man. I still think I'm going Gunmetal 18" CSL though. Slightly better offsets and with my PBM the gunmetal will look better than the matte black.

I will try and get some more today. I cleaned her up yesterday. Matte Black on torrid red takes a minute to get used to, as I used to have chrome 17s. I love the red/black color combo though, so I am happy. All that is left is to get the fronts tucked just a butt hair more and I will be satisfied.

VMR makes a great looking wheel, I will say that. I also have nothing but good things to say about the Yokohama S drives and Discount Tire. They really hooked it up.

BUMP man. Get some fresh pics up, what's the deal with the offsets and rub? I'm going gunmetal I believe.

Just FYI I read on another post that SNL performance (vendor on the left) is selling CSL reps now. I tried finding them on the website and couldn't, but will be calling later in the week. Keep you posted.

Finally!

We here at SNL Performance do NOT sell CSL wheels! We've never sold these and never will.

I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
