So, I ordred new tires, 245-40-18, and the shop said there is only about a paper clips worth of clearance between the tire and strut. Could i use a spacer and still use the oem studs, if so, whats the biggest i can go before i need to repalce the studs?
Or should i just get smaller tires.

Count the threads you usually should need a least a 7 thread turn
(to be safe).
Unfortunately I learned (long ago) and first hand, that this is something you do not want to screw up!
You can usually get away using the OEM lugs/bolts with a 3-4 mm spacer TOPS, any larger spacer than that you better install longer studs

Safety dictates longer studs. Period.

Are studs kind of a universal thing, where they can be used on multiple hubs, or are they something i would have to special order?

DMS "Mike White" from Pedders was talking about some 3MM spacers they have been using to get more camber.
It should be enough so move the tire away and still be safe.
Also make sure your bushing are not shot and have a good alignment.
