The autocross will be held at Ki-Kare on friday July 10th. The event will run from 9am untill 4pm. The amount of laps will depend on how many cars participate. The cost is $35 to race and it is free to watch from the grandstands. No one but the driver will be permitted near the pit area. The drag race will be going on at the same time. It is $15 for a spectator pass. If you buy the pass you will also have access to the autocross pit area. Pete Basica from Pedders and Rich Johnson from BackStreet Performance are sponsoring the event. Frank Vinson from the local SCCA club will be running the event for us. This is his home course so he knows what he is doing. I invite all to come out. Even if you are not(which you should be) registered for the co-vention you can still come out and autocross. It would help if I had a count of who will be coming to join Pete, Rich, and myself at this event. You do not have to pre-register for the autocross. We will take all that show up, but it would be nice to know. Ok, so who is in?

It is a weeklong event July 7th-11th in Dayton Ohio. Your registration includes entering your car to be judged, seminars, awards, so on and so forth. Look through the old threads about the national GTO meets. It is a good time with a great group of people with an interest in our cars.

Dammit Carl, after watching this event the past two years, I'd really like to participate in this.
Can I get a free pass out of the Nutter center...or better yet borrow your goat, say Fri from 9am-4pm?:eyetwitch:

Hmm, this is the same weekend as the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix double-event Autocross with Steel Cities SCCA...I need to think about this, especially since Rich and the gang from BackStreet will be there, as well as Pete...gotta show my support for both.

It is usualy not the same crowd. We have the track rental on Friday so it needed to be at the same time to be cost effective. Sorry if it is a conflict to you or anyone else. Hope to see you there either way.

Originally I thought these were scheduled at different times. If they are at the same time, I will have to request a refund on the drag racing spectator fee. Guess I better look at the schedule again!!

Rob,
You won't break anything. It's a ton of fun. EVERYONE should do it. Unfortunately I don't have the fundage to replace the beat stocker tires or add anything else to the set up so I will have to run what I have again and see how I fare this year? We'll see.
Chance and PSUGoat, bring it, I love competition!

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, this is not a well participated or even attended event, hasn't been the last 2 years, although 2 years ago was better than last year.
I'm not even signing up for anything else show related like judging except for the autocross, it's really the only reason I even go to GTOAA, except for seeing friends and such.
Honestly, if I had the chance to go to a proper SCCA sanctioned dual meet, I would do that if it were me.
I'd still like to see you there nonetheless, but the reality is you will probably be somewhat disappointed. No offense to those putting on or sponsoring the event.

I just hope we more of the first gen cars to participate this year. Last year only one guy showed up in his 64. It's just great viewing to see those cars go thru the course.

As far as "breaking things"....really not worry alot about. I did it 2 years ago in our old 65 and all that happened was I popped my front fender insignia off in a turn. I flogged it pretty hard and it stayed together fine. Oh...and I just popped the isignia back in.
It was one of the best times I've had in that car....even though it can't compete against the new Generation Goats. (But I sure tried!)
I'd do it again this year, but we're putting the 65 in Concours Modified for the first time.
Can't recomend it enough...excellent stress release. Cap

BTW, a certain blue-themed home improvement store had the requisite fire extinguishers "on sale" for ±$17.

Was it your initial registration or the "2nd packet"?
Either way, you should be good to go Tom.
What days you attending?

Looking forward to seeing you both there again this year. If you can, please make it out to the autocross again.
I will extend another ride around or two to both of you again this year if you make it over.
See you there!

I had a fab time. Just a shame I didn't get to meet all of you.
Nothing quite like getting the opportunity to powerslide the GTO and not have to worry about the law.
For those that have never done this. It is a definite must do next year. I did eleven runs, the car performed flawlessly and was none the worse for it. Even made a run with the a/c on. Car was not even dirty when we were done.
When your doing flag duty you can really see the participents getting better every run. You could see when someone would get frustrated during a run, when they would get the car set up for a series of cones, when they would put all of the knowledge from each previous run together for a great run.
Great time, looking forward to doing it again.
