I’m getting ready to switch from a dyno jet tune to a mustang dyno tune. I was told by my tuner that if I get dialed in on 91 pump gas and try to add meth on top of it for safety that I would be running rich. I don’t wanna run rich but, I also don’t wanna tune for meth because if it goes out/or clogs while im WOT, I will hurt the motor. He told me the smart way to do it would be to get a standalone ecu so I could program a failsafe to cut fuel to the injectors if the meth is not working properly. Aem standalone is like 1500 bux that I don’t have right now. The only other way I know of is to run race gas. Is there any other option... thanx in advance.

Also how much boost are most of you guys running on just 91 octane? My goal is 10 psi for starters. I don’t wanna run race gas all the time to run big boost, since I‘ve read about how hard it is on o2 sensors etc, not to mention its pretty expensive. I’m beginning to think I wasted my money on a meth kit, if it can’t be used without worrying, unless I buy a standalone.

i run 91 with meth spray for safety, so if i do run out of meth the engine makes more power. then again im not forged though.......... yet...

yeah that may not work for me being my c/r is a point lower

a dyno jet tune to mustang tune?
awesome.

$1500 for a standalone?

Did he buy you dinner at least?

Use a small shot of meth, or mix meth and water. Set the tune to the ragged edge, but still safe without the meth, use the meth for safety and to cool down the IAT's, which in of itself will make power.

sounds like a good plan i will run it by my tuner.

Nevertheless, id like to know what turbo cars average in hp running just 91 pump gas? :)
I really dont wanna mess with race gas, or end up running through spark plugs every 2 weeks because im rich w/ my small shot of meth. I want to use the meth kit since i paid for it already plus it would be benificial in the summer....uugghh

Adding methanol under boost won't foul your plugs. I've been running it for over a year now, no fouled plugs ever.

My car is a freak. I wasn't able to run more than 9 degrees at peak torque on 93 octane at only 7.5 PSI. (100% stock LS2) Adding the meth kit allowed me to bump that up to 15 degrees. Any more than that and it starts setting off the knock detectors. Running on 93 alone, at 9 degrees of timing, it ran like dog crap. Methanol fixed it.

At sea level, 93 octane and meth, 15 degrees timing, 7.5 PSI my car dynoed at 554HP/573TQ. DIY tune.

I'm not talking about adding meth under boost. I'm talking about after your tuned on just pump, then adding meth. It will cause you to run rich if i'm not mistaken ..

I really need to find out how much boost ppl are able to run on pump 91 oct w/ 9.6-9.7:1 c/r

It does go rich with methanol, but I'll be darned if I can feel any kind of power loss when it does. In my case, I have the tune set to provide 11.5:1 AFR on pump gas alone. When the methanol kicks in, the AFR drops anywhere from 11:1 to 10.5:1. As a matter of fact, I often watch the WB-AFR gauge to verify the methanol system is still working. :)

do u guys really think a mix of 50/50 meth/water will cause ur car to go that rich to a point where it loses a significant amount of hp? i dont think so..

Mike, I'd say you missed your "." but it seems like you're PMSing all over the thread with the grammar policing. ;)

sorry, couldn't miss the oportunity...

If ur (I mean you're ;)) going to spray meth for cooling and safety then I think a 50/50 mixture with a fairly small spray nozzle would be appropriate. Use distilled or reverse osmosis water. If you want to gain power then go with 100% meth and tune for it. I recommend a progressive controller with an in-dash display in that case.

When I was spraying 100% meth we had to significantly decrease my fueling under boost when the meth kicked in. I was not comfortable with the fuel system I had (boost-a-pump, meth kit, funky fueling tune, and a fuel pump that could not keep my rails at a constant pressure). Therefore I ripped everything out and am installing a good fuel system with a regulator at the rails and 2 in-tank pumps.

I dont think it will be to the point where you will lose power, but maybe rich enough where fuel economy might suffer, or maybe black spark plugs...My evo used to pull timing all the time if she got a bad tank of gas and would go into save mode and run really rich. My plugs would look terrible in no time.

reverse osmosis water huh??? dont know where to get that at. i use tap water but should prolly move up to distilled to avoid build ups.

Most grocery stores or pharmacies carry distilled and r/o water. I make my own for my home saltwater aquarium.

Yeah, don't run tap water. Depending where you live the tap water isn't even safe to drink according to the FDA standards. The junk in the water will quickly build up in the engine.

Hazaa! a fellow saltwater owner. I keep the ol' r/o di filter in the garage for the car and the fish ;)

Distilled is pretty cheap where I live. There's a local outfit that manufactures it.
