Once You Go 18s, You Never Go Back!

I got my GTO in March 2005 which was before the 18" wheel option. I just bought a set of stock 18s and it looks much better plus they are easier to clean...17s no more! How many of you went with 18s and will never ever go back to the 17s?

I'm in the opposite boat (not by choice :( ) I had the OEM 18's on my other GTO that was totalled. When I found my current GTO it had the 17's and boy do I hate them! I recently purchased 19" Drift R's to remedy that!

I went down from 18's after market to 17's after market. I have a better choice in DR with more sidewall to help with my traction issues.

I assume you mean traction in regards to the OEM tire size. You can easily put on 245/40/18's on the stock 18's to make up for that. Weight wise they are practically identical. Cost, yeah obviously the rims and tires are more expensive. One thing you can't win at is looks. The stock 17's are garbage compared to the stock 18's in that department.

I was in the same situation, bought in June 2005 when I think it was "still rumoured" we were getting factory optional 18's.. Bought a pristine set of Factory 18's, and swapped them out... the "old 17's" are STILL in my friend's garage storage area 2 yrs later..... they only had 5k on them.... maybe will buy a set of the Aussie HSV 19's in the future...

Ya I love them too but they are too heavy and not wide enough. I went with 18 in. CSL's.

Gosh, I remember when 15's were the sought after option. My 70 Mach 1 428 CJ only had 14x8 from the factory.

My 19's are a bitch to clean compared to stock 18's, but I wouldn't trade them for anything

I had lucked up and found some 18s fairly cheap. Made such a difference. Really like a factory look but needed more out of the stock 18s. So I polished them, widen the rear 1" and mounted 275/35/18's on the rear and 245/40/18's on the front. Now thats the way it should have come from the factory!

I agree...they look great! It's too bad the GTO didn't come with flared fenders like the G8 to give it a more muscular look and accommodate wider wheels.

I love my 18's but because of winter I have a set of 17's with winter tires on them. Next year I'm buying a set of 18" Drift-Rs for summer.

When I put 17 inch 2003 Mustang Cobra wheels on my Avanti I got
all kinds of hate messages from quite a few old timers telling me I
put huge "baby buggy" wheels on it. Funny how 17 is "small" a few
years later.
