Could a Ruff Racing 278 with shaved offset lead to studs failing? I'm now on my fourth, the first three were while tightening and the last one broke on the road. Should I be using a different sized lug nut or something? I've ordered replacements but I'd like to know for sure, so i feel safe

I'm no expert, but I'd say there's gotta be a defect with the studs. How can the wheels have any effect on the stud while sitting there being tightened? You're not over tightening are you? I've been told to slowly crank em up to 100 ft lbs so I actually use a torque wrench in order to make sure it's correct. Only thing I could see is if the shaving made it impossible for the wheel to be properly mounted hub centric. Then the wheels are supported by bolts only, which could be a potential problem.

I would have to agree with DaffyDrunk.

Are you still using the stock lug nuts? I had to change lug nut styles for my Axis Shines.

if you're using acorn style lug nut (capped end) they might be binding on the cap not allowing you to torque them correctly.
also the studs could be tweeked from past overtorque.

That's what my money is on. The thickness of the wheel is probably thinner due to being shaved, and the studs are bottoming out on the nuts.
