Hey wheel nuts.
I need an advise.
I got these wheels to try. Neighbor used to have an 04 GTO and got these wheels. He no longer has the goat, but still has the wheels. He gave them to me to try, I put them on and the rears are rubbing on the fender.
They are 18 inch with 245/40/18 tires. It seems like the offset is not the same as the OEM wheels and they stick out a little.
I hear rubbing when accelerating through a turn or when accelerating hard from a full stop.
Is this something that can be solved with better rear springs or would I need to roll the fender (or grind it)?
I didn't think I would like the black rims, but when I put them on, I started liking them.

Well I took them off and put the stock 17" wheels back on so I could drive to work today without rubbing.
I guess I could just always give them back to the guy.
He says that his 04 GTO didn't have anything special done to the fender lip and they didn't rub.
BTW I remember his 04 GTO had an LS1GTO.com sticker on it, he said he had taken over someone's lease. I wonder if that person is still lurking here.

either pedders 5/16" springs or drag bags will solve it. if not just get them cut or rolled and never worry about it again. they look good

I always cringe when I think about rolling or grinding the lip.

did you need to repaint anything to prevent rust?

also do these look like they stick out too much? I like how the top of the wheel looks, but near the bottom it is a bit too exposed, no?

Just get stock 18s if you aren't going staggered

it looks normal due to our camber. what are the offsets? and yes right on the edge where u cut it just do any kind of paint/rust prevention you want. it's on the inside and you dont see anything

Thanks. I am not sure what the offsets are, these are not new wheels and I am not sure the guy has the papers. Is there an easy way to measure offset?
The tires are 245/40/18, so they should look similar to my OEM 245/45/17, but they stick out compared to the OEMs.
Would this also be a concern with suspension geometry?

The offset width shoud be stamped on the inside of the spokes

I already took them off the car, I can take some pics of them laying out on the floor. Standby.
P.S. Suckers tend to not show much detail in pictures 'cause they are black.

I found a bunch of numbers, not sure which one is the offset.
One thing that was the same on all four wheels was:
S009
18x8JJ
690KG
plus these patterns with a grid and dots -
04 ::::::
05 ::````
06 blank
They also had number 120 stamped on them
Also "ET 38" on all
Also "22 8A", "22 8C", "22 C8", "22 8A"
Also "684", "6A4", "6BA" (or "6B4"), "6A4"
Do any of these numbers look like offset?
I just decided to Google S009 and found these exact wheels:

although this site shows a variety of different sizes

Interesting how these are ET 38, and I am googling them and can't find them sold with 38mm offset anywhere.

They 8 inches wide with a 38 offset, so they will stick out 10mm over the stockers

Sounds like a good deal for the fronts and potential strut rub. After mounting them I was able to stick a whole finger between the tire and the struts.

everyone got bored with me?
I didn't realize they look pretty nice when pasted into the forum form a vendor's website.

BTW, offsets can be shaved, right? Is this doable? Recommended?

+38et mill off 3mm new offset = +41et if my math is correct. i just mounted a set of 18x8 +40et and so far the trip to work yielded no rubbing.

yeah, math is pretty straight
but is it advisable to shave offset in my case?
