They aren't rifled. It's a smoothbore, and it only had an effective range of about 50 yards.

On land they were almost completely useless.

Leave it to the Russians to design a powder charged spear gun.
I think a rocket powered pocket knife would be cool.

VSS Silenced Sniper Rifle is a principal component of the BSK silenced sniper system. The BSK system comprises a VSS special automatic sniper rifle, optical and night sights and a special 9 mm cartridge. The system is operational with the Russian Special Forces and it is used for covert missions. With this in view, the specialized rifle system is designed so as to ensure silent and flash less fire at a range of up to 400 m.
