ok so I have been working on and off on my AR-15 since Dec. My brother has been building his own for a while now and I decided that I needed one. Him and his buddies have an AR-15 league night that they do during the warm season. So I wanted to play also. So I started aquring parts for mine.. Well the lower and all the parts that go in it were the 1st things I picked up. (before the prices went up and it took forever to get one) Well he came over last weekend and helped me put together the lower and put the stock on it.. Then finding out it was going to take me 6 months to get the barrel I was bummed out.. I happen to be close to my local gun shop last night and thought I will stop by just to see. Having no idea what I was going to find.. Well low and behold on their shelf was a "CMMG upper M4 CARB 14.5" Phantom 049" I asked if it was sold and he said he has had it for only 5 hours... so I picked sangged it and never looked back. paid 550 bucks for it. I think in these times it was a great deal from what I found on CMMG website.

Anyway here are parts I used in the gun.
Spikes Tactical Lower
RRA adjustable stock.
and the upper listed above.

So I need to get me a back iron sight as I plan on getting an EOtech halo sight later on this summer.

Looks nice, but if your barrel is < 16", you need an SBR license, don't you? If the flash supressor takes it up to 16" & is unremoveable, you MAY be OK.

In order to avoid uncomfortable conversations with LEOs, I'd be absolutely sure that gun is legal before you go sporting about in public with it.

That flash hider looks long enough. If it was sold like that, its probably blind pinned on or silver soldered, whatever the ATF requirements may be.

EDIT: Found the upper: http://www.tacticalsight.com/cmmg-upper-wpermanent-phantom-flash-hider-p-96.html

Says the flash hider is permanent

Nice rifle - I just built another one of my lowers this last weekend with a CMMG midlength 16" upper. As a third string gun, so keeping this one cheap I used a carry handle sight setup rather than optics and spent the money on a railed handguard and nice stock/grip. What are you going to use?

The 14.5 with a perm. phantom is perfectly legal, CMMG also offers a 14.7 with a perm A2 birdcage so you don't need the longer hider.
