This is great news. The agriculture industry has already been making use of predator insects to control many plant pests, and fire ants have been a huge problem. The fire ant problem has restrained interstate shipment of many plants, and has caused many rifts between state dept's of agriculture.
Not to mention, the fire ant is probably the main reason for the rapidly declining number of wild bobwhite quail populations in the southeast. Bird hunting may become fun again.

nothing new... They even used this in King of the Hill.
Eco-Kill: Method of killing fire ants using flies, not chemicals. ''This is exactly what those environmentalists should be spending their time on,'' says Hank. ''Finding forms of nature to use against other forms of nature that are inconvenient to man.''

Meh, that registers very low on my Be-aware-of-things-that-could-cause-the-Zombie-Apocalypse-Meter. Cool though, I think insects are just about the only living things on earth that can function without a working brain for two weeks. Other than some people.

Isn't that the truth!

Fire ants weren't supposed to be here. They came to the US from Argentina via the port of Mobile, AL. Just like Formosan termites aren't supposed to be here.
