I have a DSA Para Congo (FN FAL) folder and recently took the rail handguard off and put the slim handguard back on.

I just couldn't get used to the way it felt (very bulky in the hand) and the way it threw the balance of the rifle off. With an Aimpoint and a Surefire tac-light w/ grip, it just felt very unwieldy.

I was going to put a Knights rail forearm on my CAR-15, but now I'm having second thoughts.

I really like the Aimpoint on most rifles, but I just seem to think the sleek-ness and easy-pointability of the FAL with iron sights is a better trade off.

What are some of the preferences here for adding stuff to their rifles?

Ain't nothing wrong with iron sites, their batteries last forever!

Electronic sites are great for fast target acquisition, but they do add girth. I have a similar issue with one of my AKs. It has a mount that replaced the rear site so I bolted a 40mm Trueglo ES. It works good but it adds to the profile significantly.

I would add the rails to the CAR-15, if for nothing else a vertical grip. A mounted flash light is nice but in reality you would not use it much, so keep it small if you go that route.

Lasers are great for training, and OK for a night site. However you could spend your money on much more useful goodies.

Wouldn't an FN FAL Para (DSA Equivalent) with tritium night sights and a decent CQB sling be the ultimate battle rifle? Well... at least a first rate choice in Afghanistan, Somalia, or other near-east battlefields? (hypothethically of course )

I use mine for the ranch so I opted for a Leupold variable scope with the Hogue fore grip. I also have a small upper and lower picatinny in case I need a lazer.
