My car isn't a daily. More of a garage queen. I am considering going with the 245 40 18 MT Drag radials shown here.

How many miles could I expect out of these?

I don't know.
I'm running Et Street Radials all the time. I'll let you know when they are done. They seem to be wearing rather well right now, though. Including the track passes.

Anyone think 10000 miles would be possible?
Probably not huh?

I seen somebody on here said they got 5000 miles. I don't think you will get much out of them. But you should get a good 60 foot time lol.

At the rate I drive I suppose 5000 miles would suffice.

i dont recommend driving them on the highway.
maybe if you work really close to home, or ur daily trips are small (less than 5miles).
Heat cycling (ie highway speeds) reduce the sticky-ness of the tire tremendously.
Notice how they 'ball/gum up' after a highway trip. well, the MT drag radial gets harder the more you expose it to heavy heat cycling. They might SEEM like they have a ton of tread left, but they are useless since they have harden.
Unless you car is a weekend warrior, and only that, would i recommend you keep those tires mounted 24/7 on the car.
You are going to go thru them quickly and lose the effectiveness of them very soon,.

I have 1000 miles on mine and about 6 track passes with good burnouts, and they still look next to new. I think they will last as long as you want them to last.

so drag radials are the way to go to bring down 60 foot times............

I want them to last 100,000 miles.

I ran them last year, and they did hook pretty decent at the track, but I didn't care for them on the street. They hooked better than my junk T1R's, but I had to get them re-balanced every time I came back from the track. I finally took them off in the Fall and put my street tires back on my 18's.
If I could go back, I would have bought a complete drag setup instead of these (like I'm doing now).

I got 650 miles. Out of my first set. 800 out of my second set. 285/35/18 and then a 285/40/18. one set was the origional tread design, the other was the new tread design.
The car had 0 Track passes. Only street miles

That's definetly not the norm, besides he is asking about the M/T you have the BFG's there. I had a set of BFG 295/35/18 as daily drivers and got 5-6,000 miles out of them. One would be VERY lucky todo the same with the M/T.

On my MT Drag radials 265/40/18`s I put 5,000 miles and about 40+ passes before they were done.
The 18 inch drag radials have a different tread then the 17-15 in ones and ride pretty well in the rain unlike the other sizes.
They were also sticky enough to give me 1.54 60 fts limited only by the cars power not because they would spin.
I hope that helps

I've had good luck both off and on the track with Nitto DR's. Mine first pair I bought in 2006 and they lasted 10K miles. Just replaced them with a new set on Friday.
They're not going to hook as good as M/T's but they do hook good if you heat them up enough.

I agree. Nitto are the best street/strip tire. This is my second summer on mine and will replace next year with the same. By the end of this summer probably will be close to 10,000 miles if not a little more. Probably not as good as a MT or BFG, but a good all around performer that lasts. Rain is no problem I even kept them on all winter.

I don't dare use my Nittos to race in (since they are beyond horrible for racing, though better than street tires), but they are great street tires. They are better in the rain than the shitty stock all season tires.

I tried the BFG's once and they didn't last at all
Nitto's aren't much better
M/T last the best and hook the best

Next time I'm going with Hoosier DRs.
I love the Mickeys, but TireRack sells the Hoosiers and I get tires at wholesale through them.

Keep in mind I need a 245 40 18 tire so that limits my choices quite a bit.
How do the mt drag radials feel at highway speeds and through the corners?
MuhThugga

I have 275/40/17 Mickeys and they feel fine on the highway and on the back roads.
Obviously, I'm not pushing it on the back roads, but the ass end isn't swinging all over the place.

Please tell me more. Why do the MT ET Streets ball/gum up. I used Nitto and BF Goodrick DRs, but they wore smooth. The MT ET Streets ball up. The whole contact surface is "balled/gummed" up. Is this a bad thing? I might try to Hoosiers next, as they have a good price.

MT uses a very soft compound in there drag radials--even softer than the regular bias ply et streets (or so I was told). I have about 30 passes on mine and they are wearing down pretty good. They do get quite gummy.

So is the balling up of the material indicitive of anything? It's the only tire I know that gums up like that with balls of rubber. I had some ET streets that didn't even do that.

it jsut means they are super soft.
once u stop seeing that happen, the tire is no where as sticky as it used to be.
Like i said, it might seem like the tire has plenty of tread left on it, but it could be harder than a conventional street tire.
Street tires are the same way btw.

Gotcha, the balling up is good. It means you have some soft rubber left on there...

as everyone has stated, your best bet for traction at the strip is prob gonna be the m/t. but if mostly drive your car on the street with the occasional trip to the track i wouldnt buy them. nitto nt-01s are a pretty sticky tire. i got well over 10000 miles on them with track passes. i cut a 1.7x on 275/35/18. there a road racing tire, but dont have a super stiff sidewall like you might expect. i switched to them from the 555rs because i was tired of the soft sidewalls around corners and high speeds.

The NT01's look interesting. Are you running those on the rear only?
