View Full Version : Rolling my fenders tomorrow.

So, I'm rolling my fenders tomorrow. I'll go as slow as possible and will make sure I keep it heated up the whole time. But, my friend recommended to me that I cut the lip also. He said to take a razor and cut the inside of the fender lip, out of sight all the way around. He said it keeps the fender from cracking where it is visible, because he said it is really hard to keep it from cracking. I'm pretty sure I'm going to take his advice. I would rather have it crack for sure out of sight, than have it maybe crack visibly? I could go back and spray the inside with primer and maybe some rhino liner crud after. Do any of you have input about this or recommend against it?
Also, here is a pic of my dirty IBM with my new V713's running RE-11's The car is sitting high because the emergency brake is on and I had just let the jack down. I'll post some real pics after I get these baby's rolled.

I dont know anything about rolling fenders
But Ive used that hurkuliner before and it is very strong, its pretty easy to apply as well just need to do some sanding get some xylene as surface prep and coat it.

Did you research cutting/grinding instead of rolling? It looks a little easier than rolling and hoping the paint won't crack/warp.

I had my fenders rolled and if i did it over I would most definately have cut/grind them instead. My inner lip did crack, although its not visible unless you look under the lip itself. I am thinking about having a guy go ahead and cut them down and then Ill reroll them so there isnt a sharp lip to slash my own tire. Search the cut/grind method and get all your info straight before you commit to it.

The consensus is, it's better to grind? It does seem like you have more control over the results and gain a little more space if you grind. I appreciate the input.
Also, has anyone been able to roll their fenders without them cracking?

Angle grinder + 80 grit flap disc = great results. Make sure you go don't overheat the metal, so take couple of breaks in between.

Right on. Yeah I tried rolling. It bites. So, I busted out the grinder. By coincidence, I went and picked up one of those flap discs before I saw your reply. I can't believe how easy it is to keep a clean line with it. Grinding is way better as long as you go at your own speed. I'll get pics up just like I promised. I just have to wash the car first.

dont roll... real risky.. when gridning really isnt risky at all. Any roll attempt has resulted in a cracked paint in my case. Grinding is easy and more efficient at getting rid of the entire rub.
I see you have attempted the gridning route though.. def the way to go front or rear :D

Cut them! And post up some pics of your wheels with the tires on them... I saw your pics in the other thread, but I wanna see it complete, they look awesome.

Grinding and cutting is easy? What the Hell? It is FAR from easy. There are three pleats of thick metal formed at the fender lips ... it is NOT an easy task to cut the fender. It will take a lot of time and patience to cut them and have them looking good at the same time.

Did you get any cracking? It seems like the multiple pleats are what makes it hard to roll also though. You have to apply so much pressure to bend them and it makes it hard to make the process gradual. This may be just my opinion though.
By the way BlackSabbath, you have the best name on here.

I had a bodyshop cut/grind mine, then they sprayed undercoat on the inner side so it doesn't rust...Took them 20 min and cost $100...
