I have a 04 gto and I wanted to know if I can put a 275 45 17 on the rear and keep the 245 45 17 in the front. I have heard mixed feelings about having to roll fenders and some say you dont. So im asking what am I going to have to do if anything at all to put 275's on the rear? I already tried searching the forum and I couldnt really find what I needed much help is appreciated

If you're putting them on stock wheels, you probably won't have to touch the fenders. And get 275/40 to keep same diameter all around.

275-40-17 would be the correct size. That will fit fine if you are using the correct wheels.

I put 275/40/17s nitto Drs on my stock 17s.

I had to roll my fenders since the stock suspension sags it was rubbing on the outside of the tire.

Nothing bad happened to me when i got them rolled. I guess he did a good job?

why do I have to go down to a 40 series instead of a 45 series?? so it doesnt hit the fenders?

A tire height is determined by the width. The 40 or 45 is a percentage of the width to give you the height of the sidewall. So, a 245-45-17 is the same height as a 275-40-17.

245/45-17 actually. For the fronts you use the same size as the factory tire. The "40" or "45" is simply the sidewall as percentage of the tire width. 40% of 275 is really close to 45% of 245 so they actually have the same height to them. if you did a 245/40-17 in the front along with a 275/40-17 rear it might look smallish and you'd probably piss off the traction control/ABS.

bfg drag radials do rub in 275 /40.nitto 555 drs do not, toyo 888 drs do not. I have ran all 3 this season. I don't think any regular radials rub

yea i used to sell tires and I somehow didnt realize this. I knew the 40 or 45 or whatever size was a ratio but I didnt realize that a 275 would cause such a difference. Well I will trust you guys and hope for the best. Im gunna grab a set of sumitomo htrz II. Had them before and loved them even though they are cheap priced.

Ill do a 245/45-17 for the front and a 275/40-17 for the rear. Hopefully ABS doesnt go nuts and I hope it doesnt rub with these tires on my factory rims. I know some manuf tires are bigger than others such as BFG. If you have run sumitomos please let me know

FWIW, I noticed during an oil change that I had really bad strut rub on my fronts. My GTO is a DD, and I just didn't have time for suspension work. I had 235/45s mounted up front, and have 255/45s in the back. No more strut rub and I haven't had any ABS or traction control issues.

Not to steal the thread but quick question. I'm putting down 430hp to the rear and will 285's be enough to hook first? What size of tire do you think I need to accomplish this?

A 275/40 M/T should let you hook just fine.

I think you'll be fine. That's exactly the front/back sizes my dad has on his GTO except his wheels are 17x9.0" 48 et out back, and 17x8.0 40 et front. No rubs on his unmodded car. 275 is obviously pushing the width for the stock 8" wheel, but it has been done on here many times without issues.

Probably within the margins. I once read tire height could differ as long as it was less than 3%. More than that and you might confuse the traction control and/or ABS stuff. Not sure if this is true but it makes sense I guess.

I got 245/45/17 in the front and 275/40/17 in the rear. No problems what so ever. Except when changing lanes on an uneven paved road..it tends to catch the 275 before the 245 lol

I have had Falken ZE-512's 275/40/17 and had no rubbing issues. Same with the Nitto dr's. But I did have a some trouble with Kumho Escata SPT's though. They rubbed a little so dicount tire replaced them with the Falken's. Btw, I had stock suspention and no fender mods.

My kuhmo 275 40 17 rubbed on a 17x9.5 54mm offset on the inside slightly with stock suspension. They are a large square sectioned tire for thier size though.
