View Full Version : Needed: Fender Roller tool

Hello all,

I just purchased my new tires and wheels and am now starting to get the damned fender rub. I already had my fenders rolled once, but the guys that did it, didnt roll them as much as was needed. I plan on grinding them down to about 1/4 inch and then rolling them up a little for extra insurance.

Now, I would like to borrow a fender rolling tool from someone in the Austin area. I know there was a thread a while ago to rent the tool, so I know this was once done. I plan on doing this sometime in the next week, so someone away from the Austin area might work, and I can pay shipping to and from Austin.

Please someone help me so I dont ruin another $300 tire. PM me with any details or offers. Im open to almost anything, but Austin area members have first dibs. Thanks for looking and the help with this necessity.

well first what size tire, wheel offset, and any suspension mods done yet?

I went with 19" CSL hyperbalcks, size is 275/30/19 with a +45mm offset in the rear. No suspension mods, yet.... but Pedders xa's are on the way. I am very certain that I just need to grind down the lip a little, because I only rub on medium-large bumps, but when I take a turn at a high rate of speed it chews into the tire. I only had a little problem with my old tires which were 18".

Basically what I want to do is grind down the fender lip to about 1/4" then roll the remaining up a little so I can make sure that the lip wont chew into the tire if the rear becomes out of alignment.

Thanks for looking and helping!

personally I'd wait since you have no suspension mods done yet and they are on the way you say, and or if only one tire is rubbing your cradle might be off pretty bad

I have done the alignment and it wasnt off that bad, we didnt want to adjust it because I dont have the rear cradle tool. I cant drive my car without it rubbing and therefore I am going to be stuck without a car until end of June or later... whenever Pedders gets the new shipment in.

I just noticed that the other tire is rubbing, but not nearly as much as the passenger side. I cant afford to buy another tire, so I am looking for a quick fix right now.

I do have all the bushings in so I am going to be installing all those on Wednesday. I am going to be waiting for the coilovers only from here on out. I even bought the rear camber kit, so that would help. But I think its a must that I need to get the fender lip fixed.

I would think that should do just the opposite. Roll first, then grind.

If you try to roll a narrow lip, you risk bulging the fender because it's going to take much more pressure to move the small'er amount of metal.

...I could be wrong though.

I have them rolled somewhat right now. The guys that did it made sure that the tires that WERE on there would fit fine, which they did. Now that I went to a staggered setup with 19" and a 275 in the rear, the rolling isnt enough. I am planning on grinding them, but since they are rolled, should I grind them now and leave it? If I remember correctly, the fender is rolled, but not all the way to the quarter panel, I think the bend starts about 1/2 way into the lip.

Mine are rolled about 3/4 of the way, but not all the way against the inner fenderwell like you described.

If it were me, I'd try to roll them even more to get them as close against the body as possible. Grinding it would be my worst decision because I just KNOW I'd get burn spots or bubbles into the exterior's finish! I sometimes have that kind of shit-luck :)

lol... do you have a tool that I could rent or borrow from you? I am trying to get this fixed someway or somehow. I was told that if you take your time then paint bubbling should not be a problem. I was told to go back and forth for no more than 3 minutes or so then go to the other side. It is a long process, but if done correclty, will look good and work perfectly.

I borrowed the roller from a local last year, but I forget his screen name. He doesn't have Frequent Flyer Miles on this site like some of us :) (including me)

I know that harborfreight had them for sale and it was an awesome price, but I think someone told me that they stopped selling them.

Make a thread in the "Wanted Section". That's how I found a local member that had one.

I searched Harbor Frieght (online at least) and they had something, but not nearly what I am looking for. I will put a thread in the wanted section in a little while. I might even call Harbor Frieght to see if they still have em, but not listed on line. Thanks for the help thus far

EDIT: I called HF and they didnt have the fender roller and discontinued the product. I guess people were right saying that the product was cheap imitation for the Eastwood roller. Oh well, my search continues.

I am sending mine out to Austin in a couple of weeks or so to a shop working on a car for me. You can borrow it if you haven't found one by then. You would just need to leave a refundable deposit to them.
