View Full Version : Inner fender clearance on 10" Drift R's

Anybody with 10" wide drift R's, please chime in here. I'm just wondering how much clearance you guys have on the inside fender wells?
I'm about to get some 10.5" wheels to fit on mine and it would be nice to have this info for reference. I'm trying to figure out how much I can push mine to the inside (by shaving them) before I run into rubbing issues.
Thanks!

The Drift R 10" are +50 I believe for both 18's and 19's. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
The wheels I'm working with are 17x10.5 +44. If I leave them unmodified, they will have identical inside clearance as the drift r's, but the lip side will be 12mm wider (1/2 inch). I know that will clear the fender lips if I have them ground down all the way, but I would like to get them pushed in as much as possible by shaving them. That's the reason I'm asking the question. If there is an ample amount of clearance, I am going to have a couple mm's shaved off the hub.

Its pretty easy to get rubbing inside, especially with stock springs due to negative camber. People with 10in 54et wheels have reported some rubbing and I had a little bit with my 9.5in 57et wheels with the stock saggy springs.
It is, however, fairly easy to get more clearence with a big hammer and with more extreme cases spacing the shock inwards and notching the a-arm.
Its not recommended to shave more than 3-5mm off of a wheel, so with a 10.5 and 47-49 et you will be safe on the inside with a bit of hammering. The outside will be a problem, unless you really stretch the tire on the wheel. It would be comparable to a 9.5in with a 36et

18x8 drifts are 43MM.
18x10 drifts are 52MM
18x9 front drifts are 46MM
18x9 rear drifts are 53MM
many 18x10 owners have to "massage" there inner quarters if they use a full-sized 275, instead of an undersized 275
hope this helps

Well I got the rims already, the tires are on their way. My lips are ground down, not quite to the max yet, but I can always grind off more. My thoughts are, r0nd3l has tried 10.5's and he's tried everything between +48 and +57 and +48 worked the best but needed a bit more work. Another member, gto nate is running 19x10.5's with +40, 265's and lowered. So I'm at +44 and I think I'm going to leave it since I'm tucked in a little better than gto nate and I'm pushed out a bit further than r0nd3l was. If they can be pushed in more, I'll have the hubs shaved a bit. I'll found out sometime next week!

Where exactly are you rubbing? On the lip or on the inside? All the time or just on hard launches and big bumps?

I will let him know. But it sounds like you are already describing the DR-2.
