View Full Version : Storing Winter Tires at Room Temp

They are going to be in my closet, so they will be at room temp at almost all times during the summer.

They will be stacked up, so I would think full of air makes more sense physics wise. I could see if they were standing up, we could worry about flat spots, but they will be stacked like all tires you see are stacked.

Better to store them with or without air?

not sure about winter tires, but most tire manfactures reccommend decreasing air pressure to half what you normally run when storing them. i personally just leave them inflated to what there at and have never had probs.

Anymore opinions or does someone have a web-site showing facts?

I have no experience storing tires for months at a time (we don't believe in winter tires down here in tX :) ), but I agree with your logic on stacking = no worry about flat spots. Whether you store them with full air pressure or half pressure or whatever, I think at least *some* air pressure would be better than no air pressure.

Only other thing I could think that might happen is they get dried out. But if humidity is good then maybe not. I assume there's something you could put on them to avoid drying though? i.e. tire black.

A lot of people say don't dress the tires I have them sitting in my closet and it will get humid at times, but I have no idea.

Anyone else have anymore ideas? I have them stacked filled with air pressure right now close to max. Someone suggested 50% of the max PSI, any other opinions?
