When I see pics of AR's with red dot or holograph sights, they are always way up front sometimes on top of the fore grip. Mine is back where a normal scope would go. When I put it forward the dot gets blurry when I keep both eyes open (like you are supposed to). I guess you put it where it works for you, but I just can't shake the feeling I am doing it wrong.

Exactly. Personally I prefer mine to the back where a normal scope would go. Never seen people running them down the gun like that though.

I put my fakepoint in front of my carry handle. Had bought back up irons and mounted it in the carry handle location but I missed my carry handle so put it back. Its all personal preference really. Whatever allows you to use the weapon most effectively is what you should go with.

My 553 Eotech is at the rear like a normal scope.

Maybe what I am seeing is people leaving room for the magnifier. Idk, when I put red dots up front it just gets blurry

I have mine about 4 spaces from my flip down rear sight.

Whats the manufactures recommend eye relief? I would use that as a starting point. I have found the ACOG 1X with 4-5" eye relief great out to 200 yards, any further and the dot obscures the target.

chances are the reason why the sight is farther down the rail than a normal scope would be is perhaps to have a way and space to be able to throw on iron sights, magnifiers, or night vision apparatus or like many have said thats what works best for them.......like i have said for years when people ask me when it comes to the best gun to get or accessories its not what i tell you is the best its what fits you the best and what works for your needs the best.........i love how a 1911 feels but some think that say a glock fits better for them and thats where i think it needs to stay unless someone tells me a highpoint 9mm is better quality than a kimber:)
