Welcome to Illinois.
Yes, the land where you can walk into a gun store, gun in hand, trade it off and actually have to wait a full 3 days for an absurd "cool down period".
Now, I'm not a fan of any waiting period but imposing this on trades is more absurd. I had a f'ing gun when I walked in...if I was mad/murderous don't you think I would have simply shot somebody with the 1911 I already owned?
Anyway, traded my Taurus PT1911 in on a Springfield Armory XDm 9 a few days back.......I'll post pics of it when I pick it up tomorrow.

That sounds like a pretty good trade to me, too.
Sorry about the wait, though.

Is trading in a gun like trading in a car where you get way less than what you could sell it for privately?

With my local "gun guy" it's normally -$100 if you take good care of your stuff and you know him. I bought the PT for $549 in summer of '07 and got $450 out of it...I don't feel screwed. Then again my gun is in near perfect shape and complete down to the included bore brush.
I can't justify spending $600 on a new gun right now so trading in the 1911 seemed the better deal.
Oh...and I thank God I don't live in that shithole that is California...love the state, it's beautiful with amazing beaches and great weather but other than that...I mostly hate everything else it stands for.

Sounds like you have anger issues. I think you need a 30 day waiting period.

It's a "cooling off period." Like....if you catch your wife in bed with another dude, and you want to buy a gun to kill them, it gives you time to calm down i guess.....stupid.
Its 3 days...
Really? Maybe that's just for handguns. My shotgun was only 24 hours.

I can't do the Illinois BS. I lived there awhile and I don't know how I could go without carrying again.

I paid close to a G for my Sig with all the accessories. But I didn't have to wait for shit. Not to mention I can carry it anywhere I like (for the most part) :D

72 hrs for handguns...24 for rifles...makes sense huh? lord knows my XD is WAY more deadly than the Remington 870 I bought last fall...

Puts me in mind of a murder a few years back. Guy went to buy a gun while muttering about killing so and so. The gunshop owner wisely refused to sell anything to the guy who then went to a hardware store and bought a machete instead. Think it was his mother and wife he killed, I'll have to see if I can find the story.

Chicago has a complete handgun ban....

Chicago has a complete handgun ban....
Sure does.
Some states are gun friendly some are not...
My fav is Maryland. You wait the 10 days then you can go get the gun. On the paper work is says "NOT DISAPPROVED", the reasoning is because they cannot approve of you having a gun. Thus you are "NOT DISAPPROVED". Fucking rediculous.
Now my new state has a zero wait on long guns and a mini wait for the permit to get hand guns but then you can buy away.
Sure does.
Maybe it just went completely over his head? lol ;)
That's too bad about the wait. Thank God Colorado is about the complete opposite. Just fill out the standard paperwork, wait for the background check to clear CBI, then be on your way home with your new purchase. Over my several purchases, the wait times for the background check to clear can vary quite a bit. I've had some come back approved in 5 minutes or less, and one that took 26 hours. Mostly, in this state, it's because of the amount of traffic CBI is getting (i.e. other background checks from other buyers at the same time).
Now, if you live within Denver's city limits, they are freakin' Nazis. There is an AWB and all kinds of crazy regulations. Outside of there, not so much. It's funny, they even had to pass a law that over ruled the ban inside Denver in certain situations, because they were getting too many legal problems. If you are simply passing through the city, and have weapons deemed illegal in the vehicle you are travelling in (those evil "assault" weapons), you are exempt. So as long as your residence address is outside the Denver city limits, you can go on your merry way. Although, odds are if they are finding that you have these firearms in the vehicle, they probably pulled you over for something else anyways.
The Make My Day Law is another must-have for any state. A few years back, they tried to pass the Make My Day Better Law here, but it was shot down. It takes the origional law, and extended it to your vehicle. I can somewhat understand their arguement on that a little, as there would probably be quite a few more road rage incidents and whatnot, and people would claim they were defending themselves under the MMDB Law unjustly. In this state, if you want to carry outside your home just get a Colorado CCW, it's too easy. One class, then apply, then wait, then get your permit. Although I didn't have to do the first step, as they accept an honorable discharge DD214 as adequate training. LOL, I would hope it was adequate training....

At least a decent amount of states have an easy process for getting a permit. Nevada only took about 30 days to receive my CCW. If you get found with a gun loaded around you in IL, you are treated like a common criminal. I thought guns were evil until I got out of that communist state!

Another happy IL transplant here. When I started looking into the laws in FL, I was really happy with what I found. CCW, no permit required to be an owner. And I love that when you have your CCW, you don't have to wait the normal 3 days for a sidearm.

Like that here in NC also. If you have the CCW walk in buy pistol walk out.

I haven't bought another since I got my CCW, but from what I hear is that it has changed here and used to be that way. It is 72 hrs for non CCW holders and for CCW holders it could end up being as much as a week. The dumbest part is that if you don't own a gun, you can't get a CCW because you must qualify with the guns you wish to carry, so I don't see how waiting periods would affect a CCW holders access to a firearm.

Wow that's messed up man, I traded a Taurus pt945 last week for a XD 45, I did mine in Indiana so I had to wait 5 days and have it shipped to Mega Sports in Joliet.

Whats funny about IL is there is no wait for a shotgun. So if I REALLY needed to kill someone I am thinking 00buck would work.

Hell Yeah!! Fill out a quick application, they call it in, pay for your gun, carry it out the door. Just the way it should be.

I love living in the great state of Texas. Every time I purchase a firearm I take it home that same day.

Best state for gun laws, bar none, is Vermont. They have ZERO state gun laws. Can't get any better than that, at least until the Feds start leaving us alone. And we all know a godzilla sighting is more likely than that.
