I just put 2 of the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 on the rear today and I must say I love them.I know it's only been 1 day,but my traction has improved greatly.

Heckuva tire for the price imo,$99 each. :)

245/45/17,the only regret is I wish I would have gone with 265s.

Now I think the only way for it to look right when I buy for the front would be 275's and put these 2 on the front, but I know 275's would be pushing it on an 8 inch wheel.

I too went with the DZ101 265 in the rear but im sure you can fit a 275 on the 8" rim with no problem. The 265 doesnt run that much wider than my stock 245's up front ( BFG's) so when time comes to replace them im going with a 275 out back.

What would look right with the 245/45/17 up front,275/??/17 ?

I just checked and I don't see the DZ101's offered in a 275 for a 17 inch wheel.

yep, don't see the 275 either...my setup (in my sig) gives me the same tire O.D. and better strut clearance in the front...nice tires tho...nice and quiet too....:judge:

Just checked out Dunlop tire site and they don't offer and 275 for a 17 inch wheel,265 is the widest.

Can you get a 265 to look correct with a 245/45 up front?

275/40's would match the O.D. in the front...

I want to match brands so how can I get a 265 to look right with a 245 up front?

edit:Would a 265/40 look right with the front 245/45?

This chart will tell you the overall diameter of each tire, revolutions per mile, and exact width. You cant get it exactly the same unless you go 235/265 and 245/275
You can get it close but it will be a little different otherwise.
Ive driven on setups that are a bit different... actually my current setup is different... I notice no problems in comparison to my older setups which were identical in tire heights/revolutions per mile.

Basically the little variance is not going to be all that noticeable if it all.
I could only visualy see a small differance with my 245/45 17s and my 245/40/17s which were differant tires/brands and the same width which was the only reason i think i noticed it.

(my rears a little tucked too so its even covering some of the rear tire slightly.)

I know,but the DZ101 does not come in a 275 for a 17 inch wheel and I don't want to do a different tire than the DZ101.

Just got off the phone with TireRack, the guy said there is not much of a visual difference at all if I were to run a 245/45 up front and a 265/40 on the rear so I guess that's what I may do.

Yeah its like a 1/4" or so... if you can see a quarter inch front to rear your eyes are amazing.

I'll be installing the stock height HD rear Kings so it may be more noticeable on my car though.

Is there really much of a difference in tire width between a 265 and 245?

theoretically, 20mm...0.8" wider....but it will depend on the manufacturer...

I love em.
Had to cut fender lips to fit in the rear.
45mmoffset.
A little more offset would be nice if you buy them from a place that will shave them a little deeper.

I only rub now if i lower the car too much.
It doesnt hit the fender lip it hits the plastic liner near the rear bumper ceam. This is a non issue to me though since plastic on rubber does no damage.. you just gotta make sure you got enough lip cut out back there if you like your car real low like me.
Stiffer springs help the plastic liner rub but if you are real low its unavoidable.
My car rides real smooth.. no shakes.
I have the front end steering wheel shake but thats so common on gtos i cant blame it on the thruxtons yet.

its no big deal.. just need a grinder.. a rookie can do it without failing.
Grind it.. Give it a sanding to smooth it out a bit and throw some touchup on the inside edge so it dont rust.

Its no big deal... if theres paint on there immediatly theres no way for it to rust away... if you wanted to get anal throw some primer before the touchup paint to enhance how well the paint sticks.

What would be the reasoning behind putting a tire in the rear that is only 0.8" wider than the front? Doesn't seem like enough to make much of a difference.

235 front 265 rear would be 30mm wider rear...over an inch and hopefully give a somewhat staggered look....best is to go wider on the rear wheels tho....

So it's basically for just looks and no real added benefit to go 265 over a 245 other than to have a certain appearance.

What would be the reasoning behind putting a tire in the rear that is only 0.8" wider than the front? Doesn't seem like enough to make much of a difference.

The most important part of any vehicle and its handling and driving characteristics is the tires it drives on.

The wider tire in the rear helps to get the power to the ground.
While its not all that large of a size differance... between the two tires its nearly two inches... two inches of rubber more holding your rear end to the ground... with roughly only 16 inches of rubber between the two tires holding you to the ground a 2 inch increase is significant. Thats nearly 1/8 improvement to your overall traction in the rear.
Thats with a 20mm.. if your 30mm staggerd your looking at 2 1/2 inches of rubber increase.

This will net more grip in all conditions. Youll accelerate better and youll be able to throttle harder on corner exits with less worry of a sudden loss of grip.

The partial downfall is your car will understeer more with a wider tire in the rear since the front tires lose traction first. this is not only bad thing in most cases since it will allow you to accelerate harder out of corners and the extra friction used to accelerate decreases grip on the rear tires which allows me to find a perfect understeer/oversteer balance with the throttle threw the corner..
The reason its only a partial downfall is a vehicle that oversteers easily or comes around fast is dangerous for most drivers.
Some professional drivers would prefer a car that oversteers BUT novice people dont have the skill at that limit to control the slide... If the car starts plowing its more predictable and controllable for a non experienced driver... allows more confidence to novice drivers as well knowing youll start going strait before you go sideways.... excessive throttle is always possible for a slideout though.

one other thing....with these Dunlops i don't have as good traction as i had with my General UHP's....don't know if it's because these tires are slightly smaller O.D. and it acts like a "gear" (want's to break loose alot of the way thru 2nd gear)....or maybe the Dunlops just aren't as sticky? I'm now leaving the TC on more often to save em....lol
