I drive my goat every day around 800-1000 miles a month
I'm sick of having traction issues with the 255/40/17 BFG KDW2s on the rear right now and I was looking to upgrade
One of the local awesome shops has a great deal on a set of 2 MT Drag radials already mounted on stock 17" goat rims (tire size is 275/40/17) for the cheap (brand new tires)
Now I was looking at Nitto 555Rs because I've been told they do really well for DD use and work well at the track.
Which tire is better for DD use with some track use once a month? would the 555R be better or the MT?
I know the MT will not fit my car without drag bags or the fenders being rolled so I've taken that into account. But if the MT's are that much better traction wise then I might just go with them on that reason alone.
So what's your 2 cents

I would not recommend Mickey Thompsons for a daily driver. The Mickey Thompsons are much stickier than the Nittos. The Nittos will work a lot better than your street tires.

I don't have the experience with the MT's. I did however remove a set of 555R's 3 months ago. I had them on for about 13000 - 15000 miles before I was uncomfortable driving on them. They hooked well on the street for me. You can daily drive that tire and be fine for the most part. I am not sure what the whether is like where you are, but the 555R does not like cold and or rain.
If you are mounting them on stock 17's, you will have an insignificant amount of sidewall bulge. Nothing to be too worried about. I ran them at 30psi on the street and everything was good.
Have fun!

That's kind of what I was thinking, the best 60foot I've run so far on my street tires is a 1.78 and I've only done that ones, after that my best has been in the 1.9X area. I'm looking to knock a few tenths off my 60foot, so if I can run Nittos and cut a 1.7X 60 foot at the track consistently then I'll be happy. I also had some trouble going into 2nd gear at the track with it spinning a little too much. So if Nittos work better for DD and will get the job done then I guess I'll have some Nittos.

If your gonna only track once a month get the nittos, if you were to track more often i would say get the mickey. Nittos work good i was cutting high 1.6s with them. Just have to heat them like hell.(if you think they are hot enough, keep spinning them for a another few seconds)

555Rs for DD use. I got 13K out of mine with many trips to the strip.

I agree with this also. I have run both. The MT's are definitly stickier, but will not last near as long on the street.

If you plan to daily drive the car. GET THE NITTO'S!! My MT's were worthless in the rain and they picked up every stinking nail in my parking lot at work. They did hook like a mother though.
