ive seen some posts on people cutting or rolling their rear fenders. But is there a down side to cutting out those spot welds? since i dont have a proper fender rolling tool.. im just going to cut them myself. i have the tools to cut my rear fenders but what im worried about is the spot welds on the rear fender. if i cut them i will be cutting off the welds to get enough clearance. So if i cut them will the two pieces of metal be loose? and will they bang around while driving? anyone who has cut their rear fenders run into this potential problem?
Thanks for you help!

Only cut off what you actually need to get clearance and nothing more. Put your new tires on and see where you rub. Just had mine done, only cut off part of the lip. To the untrained eye when you look it still looks stock.

Mine is an 04 and had epoxy between the two layers.
The body shop that did the work said any GTO without epoxy would be filled so they could remove the welds.

the welds are close to the fender so im gona have to cut them off for clearance.
DDAWSON, could you explain a little more what you mean. i just went to check and i do feel some soft gooey stuff the factory put on cuz its painted over (although i thought epoxy was hard). so was your body shop guy saying some gtos are filled with epoxy and some are not? i think mine might be filled... did he epoxy it after he cut them?
thanks for ur help bro!
Has anyone else considered this problem with cutting the rear fenders?

im not 100% sure...but i think the epoxy is put on after the cuts and the rustoleum paint....epoxy will hold as good as thos spot welds...just make sure you leave a little "flange" for strength...

i used a die air grinder to cut the fenders. needed to cut most of them off. it took a while but did an excellent job. im not worried about the 2 pieces of metal getting loose because there are still welds at 9 and 3 o clock. Although i did notice there was 3 layers of metal close to 9 and 3 o clock. But just to make sure i used some JB weld for personal comfort and primed and painted the inside for rust protection. no rubbing but no fat chicks in the back seats.
thanks for those who helped me.

What your feeling is likely "panel bond".
